overwhelmed by the givers

2 Corinthians 8:3 NASB
For I testify that according to their ability, and beyond their ability, they gave of their own accord,

Earlier this week I wrote about being overwhelmed with the needs that have come to us in the last few days.  They have continued, and there are more people who have huge needs this Christmas season.  I pray for the resources to help as well as for more people to help these precious people that God cares about.

But let me tell you what else I am overwhelmed by.  People, businesses and others have stepped forward to help others.  The calls and emails from these folks and some others who I have talked to in passing.

Yeah, it is Christmas when people want to give.  Yet I never get tired of watching God's people step up to meet needs in the name of Jesus.  We make a difference in giving time, encouragement and our money or gifts.

Who are you going to bless between now and Christmas?  Ask you church or pastor who might have a need.  Go to your local homeless shelter and ask what you can do to serve.  Look around you because there is most likely someone who has a need your haven't seen that that has not been met yet.  Let's make a difference and give from what God has placed in our lives.

Let me say THANK YOU to all of you who have giving over and above what you normally give.

Hebrews 7:7 NLT
And without question, the person who has the power to give a blessing is greater than the one who is blessed.

I just got a phone call from one of our favorite people at the LA Dream Center.  They shared that every gift given to them this month is being doubled.  That means that the small gift that my wife and I give monthly is bigger than we thought.  That is awesome.  Bless your church and other agencies that are sharing Jesus and meeting real needs this season and beyond!  Thank you for giving!!!

NOTE: We are taking our annual mission offering at The Community Fellowship, and I ask our people and you to help us meet our goal of $3.000.  Almost half of this gift will stay in our community to help those in need.  The rest will be shared with missionaries and mission efforts in Virginia, in the USA and around the world.  Bring your best gift to The Community or you can use the paypal button on my blog (click the button on the top right of this page).

Have you heard of EDITH BURNS?

Edith Burns was a wonderful Christian who lived in San Antonio, Texas . She was the patient of a doctor by the name of Will Phillips. Dr. Phillips was a gentle doctor who saw patients as people. His favorite patient was Edith Burns.  One morning he went to his office with a heavy heart and it was because of Edith Burns.  When he walked into that waiting room, there sat Edith with her big black Bible in her lap earnestly talking to a young mother sitting beside her.  Edith Burns had a habit of introducing herself in this way: "Hello, my name is Edith Burns.  Do you believe in Easter?" Then she would explain the meaning of Easter, and many times people would be saved.  Dr. Phillips walked into that office and there he saw the head nurse, Beverly. Beverly had first met Edith when she was taking her blood pressure. Edith began by saying,"My name is Edith Burns. Do you believe in Easter?"  Beverly said, "Why yes I do."  Edith said, "Well, what do you ...

wash feet, sharing hope

John 13:4-5,14 NLT  So he got up from the table, took off his robe, wrapped a towel around his waist, 5 and poured water into a basin. Then he began to wash the disciples’ feet, drying them with the towel he had around him… 14 And since I, your Lord and Teacher, have washed your feet, you ought to wash each other’s feet. Jesus set the example we follow.  He served.  He valued and gave value to others.  That is why we choose to serve. For 18 years our church has shared an outreach called back2school, and for 16 of those years we have chosen to give students brand new shoes and socks as well as washing their feet.  It is one of the most important parts of this event. Washing feet is a humbling experience where both the give and the receiver learn how to share some moments that might change their lives.  Jesus said we should do this.  See the verse above.  Follow His example, do what He did, and give far more than you will ever know....
