power of partnership

And the congregation of those who believed were of one heart and soul; and not one of them claimed that anything belonging to him was his own, but all things were common property to them.

I sat around the table last night with a few of our team and others from 9 different churches including all kinds of construction people.  You should have heard what these folks shared.  It is amazing to watch God break down the barriers that have been in place for a long time.  Those barriers have kept Christians from working together.  Those days are quickly going away.

Not only did I get to share about The Community Dream Center and how we will be opening a shelter, but we heard from another ministry opening a home for unwed mothers.  The outpouring and desire to serve was incredible.  We all need to see this kind of thing happen as the churches of our communities unite to serve God and serve the people we are around.  The power of partnership is incredible.  Just like the early church in Acts (see the verse above) who lived unselfishly with their eyes on Jesus.

My prayer is that walls will continue to fall.  My prayer is that our separate lives will begin to be shared lives.  God is working through His church.  That is church with a big "C" that is joining forces to make a difference.  The power of partnership in our community will include people from all kinds of backgrounds.

How can I help make this happen?  How can you make this happen in a bigger way?  Remember the words of Jesus ...

I am praying not only for these disciples but also for all who will ever believe in me through their message. I pray that they will all be one, just as you and I are one—as you are in me, Father, and I am in you. And may they be in us so that the world will believe you sent me.

What would those who don't care for the church say when they see all the churches working together?  For decades all they have heard is what the church is against and have even watched us fight among ourselves.  It is time to change that.  It is time to focus our attention on God and do what He has called us to do.

Working together we will make a bigger difference than we ever would alone.  Working together the world will see that God is strong and good and able to make a difference in their lives as he is making a difference in our lives.  The power of partnership points people to Jesus and changes lives!

Have you heard of EDITH BURNS?

Edith Burns was a wonderful Christian who lived in San Antonio, Texas . She was the patient of a doctor by the name of Will Phillips. Dr. Phillips was a gentle doctor who saw patients as people. His favorite patient was Edith Burns.  One morning he went to his office with a heavy heart and it was because of Edith Burns.  When he walked into that waiting room, there sat Edith with her big black Bible in her lap earnestly talking to a young mother sitting beside her.  Edith Burns had a habit of introducing herself in this way: "Hello, my name is Edith Burns.  Do you believe in Easter?" Then she would explain the meaning of Easter, and many times people would be saved.  Dr. Phillips walked into that office and there he saw the head nurse, Beverly. Beverly had first met Edith when she was taking her blood pressure. Edith began by saying,"My name is Edith Burns. Do you believe in Easter?"  Beverly said, "Why yes I do."  Edith said, "Well, what do you ...

wash feet, sharing hope

John 13:4-5,14 NLT  So he got up from the table, took off his robe, wrapped a towel around his waist, 5 and poured water into a basin. Then he began to wash the disciples’ feet, drying them with the towel he had around him… 14 And since I, your Lord and Teacher, have washed your feet, you ought to wash each other’s feet. Jesus set the example we follow.  He served.  He valued and gave value to others.  That is why we choose to serve. For 18 years our church has shared an outreach called back2school, and for 16 of those years we have chosen to give students brand new shoes and socks as well as washing their feet.  It is one of the most important parts of this event. Washing feet is a humbling experience where both the give and the receiver learn how to share some moments that might change their lives.  Jesus said we should do this.  See the verse above.  Follow His example, do what He did, and give far more than you will ever know....
