winning with relationships

Yesterday I spoke on the subject of "Relationships Work" and talked about how to have a great relationship or marriage you have to work at it all the time.  We have all been in some tough relationships or some tough times in relationships.  Yet there are a few things we can do to find success with the people we care about.

Thanks to Joe and April Haynes for sharing with us yesterday.  Their story blessed lots of people for sure.  We can and must learn from others.

Here are some things that I shared about marriage and relationships:

We need some understanding.  Every one of us have history with God.  We are His kids, He cares for us, and His plan is to give us abundant life.  It is important that both people, husband and wife, in a marriage do their part.

Ladies, submission isn't a dirty word (when you understand it).  God intends for you to connect with Him and for your life to demonstrate your love for God and that you honor your husband.

Guys, we must try to understand her as well as treat her with dignity and respect.  When we honor our wives, we are honoring God.  Jesus is our example.  He died for us, His church, and we must be ready to serve our wives any way that makes her more successful in life.

1 Peter 3:1,7 nasb

In the same way, you wives, be submissive to your own husbands so that even if any of them are disobedient to the word, they may be won without a word by the behavior of their wives,… You husbands in the same way, live with your wives in an understanding way, as with someone weaker, since she is a woman; and show her honor as a fellow heir of the grace of life, so that your prayers will not be hindered.

I also shared what I call Keys to making our Relationships work and here they are:

1.  seek peace "live harmonious"

2.  sympathy for others (try to get into their shoes)

3.  sincere kindness (brotherly, we are family, golden rule)

4.  simple humility goes a long way

5.  share blessings, set aside getting even

1 Peter 3:10-12 nasb

For,
"The one who desires life, to love and see good days,
Must keep his tongue from evil and his lips from speaking deceit. "He must turn away from evil and do good;
he must seek peace and pursue it. "For the eyes of the Lord are toward the righteous,
And his ears attend to their prayer,
But the face of the Lord is against those who do evil."

If we want to have a blessed life, we must let God work in our lives.  Connect with God more and honor your spouse or others that you have a relationship with.  God will use you to bless, encourage and honor others.  In turn, you will be blessed!

1 Peter 3:9 nasb

…for you were called for the very purpose that you might inherit a blessing.

Have you heard of EDITH BURNS?

Edith Burns was a wonderful Christian who lived in San Antonio, Texas . She was the patient of a doctor by the name of Will Phillips. Dr. Phillips was a gentle doctor who saw patients as people. His favorite patient was Edith Burns.  One morning he went to his office with a heavy heart and it was because of Edith Burns.  When he walked into that waiting room, there sat Edith with her big black Bible in her lap earnestly talking to a young mother sitting beside her.  Edith Burns had a habit of introducing herself in this way: "Hello, my name is Edith Burns.  Do you believe in Easter?" Then she would explain the meaning of Easter, and many times people would be saved.  Dr. Phillips walked into that office and there he saw the head nurse, Beverly. Beverly had first met Edith when she was taking her blood pressure. Edith began by saying,"My name is Edith Burns. Do you believe in Easter?"  Beverly said, "Why yes I do."  Edith said, "Well, what do you ...

wash feet, sharing hope

John 13:4-5,14 NLT  So he got up from the table, took off his robe, wrapped a towel around his waist, 5 and poured water into a basin. Then he began to wash the disciples’ feet, drying them with the towel he had around him… 14 And since I, your Lord and Teacher, have washed your feet, you ought to wash each other’s feet. Jesus set the example we follow.  He served.  He valued and gave value to others.  That is why we choose to serve. For 18 years our church has shared an outreach called back2school, and for 16 of those years we have chosen to give students brand new shoes and socks as well as washing their feet.  It is one of the most important parts of this event. Washing feet is a humbling experience where both the give and the receiver learn how to share some moments that might change their lives.  Jesus said we should do this.  See the verse above.  Follow His example, do what He did, and give far more than you will ever know....
