live a life filled with love

Ephesians 5:2 NLT
Live a life filled with love, following the example of Christ. He loved us and offered himself as a sacrifice for us, a pleasing aroma to God.

Psalm 19:14 NLT
May the words of my mouthand the meditation of my heart be pleasing to you, O Lord, my rock and my redeemer.

Since the beginning of time people have been asking "what pleases God?"  Jesus was asked that and more.  His reply points people back to some of the earliest words about loving God, and then Jesus reminded His listeners that loving God means you are to love people as well.  That pleases God.

The way we look at, think about and interact with people demonstrates the fact that we either love or don't love others.  Some people say they love others but don't.  It is not about loving those who are easy to love or those who are like us.  God calls us to love everyone.  That love goes beyond what we are comfortable with to what might make us cringe.  

One way we love people is to lift those who have fallen.  I see a person whose car has broken down on the side of the road; do I stop and help?  A person I know has a more failure; do I reach out to help and encourage that person?  A neighbor loses a loved one or is laid off of their job; do I spend some time with them or take them a meal?  There are so many ways to help those who have fallen.  Each of those makes a statement ... Jesus loves you and so do I.

Paul said "live a life filled with love".  Explore that simple phrase before you move into the weekend.  If you are bold enough, ask God to point out some one who is hard to love so that you can show them real love.  That pleases God.

This love starts in what I think to myself and even in how I treat myself.  Do I live a life of grace and forgiveness?  Praise God for His forgiveness.  I ask God to let us share His love and His forgiveness with others today and in the coming days.

wash feet, sharing hope

  John 13:4-5,14 NLT  So he got up from the table, took off his robe, wrapped a towel around his waist, 5 and poured water into a basin. Then he began to wash the disciples’ feet, drying them with the towel he had around him… 14 And since I, your Lord and Teacher, have washed your feet, you ought to wash each other’s feet. Jesus set the example we follow.  He served.  He valued and gave value to others.  That is why we choose to serve. For 18 years our church has shared an outreach called back2school, and for 16 of those years we have chosen to give students brand new shoes and socks as well as washing their feet.  It is one of the most important parts of this event. Washing feet is a humbling experience where both the give and the receiver learn how to share some moments that might change their lives.  Jesus said we should do this.  See the verse above.  Follow His example, do what He did, and give far more than you will ever know....
