believe what God says

I am excited about the coming days, but I also know who is in control.  This is one of the busiest times of the year for our church family, but we will also serve more people the first of August than we will almost the entire rest of the year.  Why is this true?  It is because we chose to step up and share what we have AND what we believe with others.

That is why I want to start this week a bit different than others.  My Scripture reading yesterday was powerful, and one portion of Romans has stuck in my head.  Therefore, you are getting it this morning.  Read on, and I pray each of us will be re-enforced, re-energized, re-freshed and re-newed by God as we see the truth and believe it too.

1  Therefore there is now no condemnation for those who are in Christ Jesus.2  For the law of the Spirit of life in Christ Jesus has set you free from the law of sin and of death.3  For what the Law could not do, weak as it was through the flesh, God did: sending His own Son in the likeness of sinful flesh and as an offering for sin, He condemned sin in the flesh,4  so that the requirement of the Law might be fulfilled in us, who do not walk according to the flesh but according to the Spirit.5  For those who are according to the flesh set their minds on the things of the flesh, but those who are according to the Spirit, the things of the Spirit.6  For the mind set on the flesh is death, but the mind set on the Spirit is life and peace,7  because the mind set on the flesh is hostile toward God; for it does not subject itself to the law of God, for it is not even able to do so, 8  and those who are in the flesh cannot please God.

Pull that a part and find that God has done some significant things in our lives that sets us up to win.  Did you hear me right?  He set us up to win!!!

1.  We are forgiven.  There is "now condemnation" for us because Jesus has saved us and lives in us.

2.  There is a difference between the law of sin and the law of the Spirit.  The Spirit frees us.  Sin ties us up, traps us and reminds us that we need God.

3.  Jesus, the Son of God fulfilled the law and freed us from the law.  We are now under grace and walk by the Spirit.

4.  The mind set free by the Spirit is powerful and even dangerous.  Believing God gives us peace and makes us friends with God.

5.  We can and do please God as we believe what He has done for us.

Knowing what we believe and who we believe in makes life so much better.  Are you under a load os stress?  Are you worried or afraid?  There is freedom in Jesus.

Thanks for allowing me to share these powerful truths with you.  My prayer is that we will allow this to sink into our brains and into our hearts and into the way we talk and walk. Jesus is not a good idea.  He is everything.  He is not only the Savior of the world, but He is our friend and guide.  He not only forgives us but gives us daily power to live successful lives.  That happens as we believe what God says.

I challenge you.  Believe what God says!

Have you heard of EDITH BURNS?

Edith Burns was a wonderful Christian who lived in San Antonio, Texas . She was the patient of a doctor by the name of Will Phillips. Dr. Phillips was a gentle doctor who saw patients as people. His favorite patient was Edith Burns.  One morning he went to his office with a heavy heart and it was because of Edith Burns.  When he walked into that waiting room, there sat Edith with her big black Bible in her lap earnestly talking to a young mother sitting beside her.  Edith Burns had a habit of introducing herself in this way: "Hello, my name is Edith Burns.  Do you believe in Easter?" Then she would explain the meaning of Easter, and many times people would be saved.  Dr. Phillips walked into that office and there he saw the head nurse, Beverly. Beverly had first met Edith when she was taking her blood pressure. Edith began by saying,"My name is Edith Burns. Do you believe in Easter?"  Beverly said, "Why yes I do."  Edith said, "Well, what do you ...

wash feet, sharing hope

John 13:4-5,14 NLT  So he got up from the table, took off his robe, wrapped a towel around his waist, 5 and poured water into a basin. Then he began to wash the disciples’ feet, drying them with the towel he had around him… 14 And since I, your Lord and Teacher, have washed your feet, you ought to wash each other’s feet. Jesus set the example we follow.  He served.  He valued and gave value to others.  That is why we choose to serve. For 18 years our church has shared an outreach called back2school, and for 16 of those years we have chosen to give students brand new shoes and socks as well as washing their feet.  It is one of the most important parts of this event. Washing feet is a humbling experience where both the give and the receiver learn how to share some moments that might change their lives.  Jesus said we should do this.  See the verse above.  Follow His example, do what He did, and give far more than you will ever know....
