I'm a brand new man

Every one of us has choices to make.  We can dwell on things that are wrong and evil, or we can think about things that bring peace and encouragement.  Far too many people let their past cripple their future.  That crippling can come through unforgiveness, hatred, bitterness or a number of other things.

But I chose to believe the things that God says about me.  As I mowed the grass Tuesday evening, I heard this song:

I remember the day that I met You.
The emptiness I had
Could fill a mountain.
And I believed it was true,
My pain would never go away
But there was comfort in Your breath,
You made me believe that life was worth it.
And I’m not looking back…
My past is far behind me, yeah
I’m stronger every day
You’ve made me a brand new man
(lyrics from “Brand New Man” sung by Seventh Day Slumber)

It is time to believe the facts of what God says.  I have been talking to several people lately who chose to believe things that aren’t true, chose to let the warped world we live in overwhelm their lives.  That is a sad outlook.  Plus it is just wrong.  When we believe what God says about us and take them to heart, things will look up because we will realize as I was reminded … I’m a brand new man.

Therefore if anyone is in Christ, he is a new creature; the old things passed away; behold, new things have come.

Being in Christ is the issue of being saved.  That is something only Jesus can do.  I’m new because the old me died when Jesus died.

When you were dead in your transgressions and the uncircumcision of your flesh, He made you alive together with Him, having forgiven us all our transgressions,

This is not an easy concept to grasp, but when we know Jesus, we are forgiven.  That is totally forgiven of the wrong things we have been part of.  God makes us new.  God gives us a chance to start over.

that He would grant you, according to the riches of His glory, to be strengthened with power through His Spirit in the inner man,

By believing what God says, by living as the brand new person God has made us we will be strengthened.  I don’t know about you but being strong is not an option.  I need God’s strength to live each day.

Chose to be who God made you to be … a brand new man … all because of Jesus!

Blessed be the God and Father of our Lord Jesus Christ, who according to His great mercy has caused us to be born again to a living hope through the resurrection of Jesus Christ from the dead,

Francis Chan's "Forgotten God" (brand new book)

One of the most powerful preachers, writers and leaders of our time, in my opinion, is Francis Chan.  His first book, Crazy Love , revolutionized my thoughts about God's love as well as my interacting with God.  Now it is time for a brand new book from Chan being released tomorrow, September 1st.  The book is Forgotten God .   This is a phenomenal book about the power that Christians and the church can and must tap into.  All of it is within the Holy Spirit.  Francis talks about the power that was seen in the book of Acts when the Holy Spirit began to move among people.  It is true that many have avoided or maybe forgotten what the Holy Spirit is all about.   And like the Savior who poured out His life and blood so we have reason to rejoice, we were made to lay down our lives and give until it hurts.  We are most alive when we are loving and actively giving of ourselves because we were made to do these things.  It is when we live like this that the Spirit of God moves and ac...

inspiration from C.S. Lewis

There are many people, past and present, who get our attention by what they write or say or share.  For me C.S. Lewis is one of those.  He was a prolific writer who continues to grab the attention of thinkers from many different points of view. Lewis first grabbed my attention when I was in 5 th grader, and our teacher, Mrs. Foy, shared The Chronicles of Narnia with our class.  It was a powerful time that this dreamer opened doors to thinking like I had never lived before.  He wrote of faith, of far off places and of strong figures who found their character rooted deep in God. C.S. Lewis was born in 1898 and died in 1963, 7 years before I was born.  It wasn’t until his 30’s that under the influence of his friend Tolkien that he came to be a Christian.  He was raised in a traditional church going home, turned away from God as an Atheist in his teen years and through trying to stay away from God and faith returned to God with...
