light at the end of the tunnel

From all the conversations I have had in the last few days it is evident that there are so many things going on that have no direction, nothing good coming from them and lots of questions coming up.  Some of these people are dealing with not having work and no being able to make ends meet.  Others are dealing with severe health problems.

Each situation seems to have no end and no meaning, but that couldn’t be further from the truth.  In each of the situations there is a purpose and a plan from God.  God will teach us, grow us and guide us through them.

Often we come to the place where we see the proverbial light at the end of the tunnel.  That light may be the fact that the end of the situation is soon.  It could be that the end is now where in sight.  But there is light.  Light comes from God.  Read on:

This is the message we heard from Jesus and now declare to you: God is light, and there is no darkness in him at all. 6 So we are lying if we say we have fellowship with God but go on living in spiritual darkness; we are not practicing the truth. 7 But if we are living in the light, as God is in the light, then we have fellowship with each other, and the blood of Jesus, his Son, cleanses us from all sin.
8 If we claim we have no sin, we are only fooling ourselves and not living in the truth. 9 But if we confess our sins to him, he is faithful and just to forgive us our sins and to cleanse us from all wickedness.

God is light.  Whether that light is at the end of the tunnel or it is much bigger than that light.  He wants to give us this light, and the real light comes with the truth and letting the truth overtake every part of our lives.  Not just one day of the week, like Sunday.  Not just one part of our relationships, like living with sin.  Not just one piece of anything.  It is all or nothing.

The eye is the lamp of the body; so then if your eye is clear, your whole body will be full of light.

When God’s light fills our life, we allow God’s light to fill our life and our whole body is full of light.  What does that mean?  It is all or nothing.  The light at the end of the tunnel is not the last part.  It is only the beginning.

It is time to stop deceiving ourselves.  It is time to step away from the things that keep us from living in the light or just seeing part of the light.  God wants to fill us.  Just seeing the light is not enough.  It is when we embrace the light of God that we allow the light at the end of the tunnel to consume our lives and God directs us as he made us to be.

Have you heard of EDITH BURNS?

Edith Burns was a wonderful Christian who lived in San Antonio, Texas . She was the patient of a doctor by the name of Will Phillips. Dr. Phillips was a gentle doctor who saw patients as people. His favorite patient was Edith Burns.  One morning he went to his office with a heavy heart and it was because of Edith Burns.  When he walked into that waiting room, there sat Edith with her big black Bible in her lap earnestly talking to a young mother sitting beside her.  Edith Burns had a habit of introducing herself in this way: "Hello, my name is Edith Burns.  Do you believe in Easter?" Then she would explain the meaning of Easter, and many times people would be saved.  Dr. Phillips walked into that office and there he saw the head nurse, Beverly. Beverly had first met Edith when she was taking her blood pressure. Edith began by saying,"My name is Edith Burns. Do you believe in Easter?"  Beverly said, "Why yes I do."  Edith said, "Well, what do you ...

wash feet, sharing hope

John 13:4-5,14 NLT  So he got up from the table, took off his robe, wrapped a towel around his waist, 5 and poured water into a basin. Then he began to wash the disciples’ feet, drying them with the towel he had around him… 14 And since I, your Lord and Teacher, have washed your feet, you ought to wash each other’s feet. Jesus set the example we follow.  He served.  He valued and gave value to others.  That is why we choose to serve. For 18 years our church has shared an outreach called back2school, and for 16 of those years we have chosen to give students brand new shoes and socks as well as washing their feet.  It is one of the most important parts of this event. Washing feet is a humbling experience where both the give and the receiver learn how to share some moments that might change their lives.  Jesus said we should do this.  See the verse above.  Follow His example, do what He did, and give far more than you will ever know....
