opportunities at The Community

News from The Community Fellowship, April 27, 2012

Greetings from The Community as we are well into the spring season, a great time, for our church family to grow closer to God and to each others.  There are some opportunities we don't want you to miss.

4th SATURDAY FREE COMMUNITY MEAL

This Saturday beginning at 4pm is our community meal.  Please pass word to those who would be blessed by this meal.  Volunteers are needed and should arrive at 3:30.  Please bring desserts.

the LABELS series

We continue our LABELS series this weekend at church and have already seen God do some tremendous things in the lives of people as we put away the wrong labels we've believed and put on and held on to the labels that are true.  Invite some one to come with you this Sunday at 10:10am as we talk about the lie that we, or anyone, is worthless.

MARRIAGE ENRICHMENT

Another session of this awesome marriage class begins this Saturday and will last the next 8 weeks.  Did we mention it is FREE.  If you are married, single, engaged or want better relationship, this opportunity is for you.  We are partnering with the Marriage Alliance of Central Virginia, the Black Family Preservation Group and Mount Sinai Church in Martinsville.  It is from 6 to 8:30pm the beginning this Saturday.  Child care can be provided.  A great dinner each Saturday ... how about a date night the next 8 weeks?  To get involved call 276-883-2621 or email Sharon at director@blackfamilies.org.

COMMUNITY GROUPS (small groups re-invented)

This Sunday you will be invited to join a community group for next five weeks as we seek God and get to know each other betters.  Several of our church folks have committed to lead these awesome groups, and they will meet each week.  Different nights and times are offered.  Listen for details on Sunday morning or emailinfo@thecommunityfellowship.org for more information now.  Join a COMMUNITY GROUP this Sunday!!!

MOTHER'S DAY

Yep.  Just over 2 weeks away is Mother's Day, and we will once again offer our FREE MOTHER'S DAY CAR CARE CLINIC where we change the oil and do general diagnostics on mother's cars.  We WILL be offered seated chair massages given by Heather Morrill as well.  Sign ups will begin this weekend.  Volunteers are needed.  See Kasim Adams or call the church at 276-647-8231 for more information.

God called our church to demonstrate the love of God to our community, and these activities and more are doing that as well as pointing people to a life of abundance in Jesus.  Please pray that God would use us to help people find meaning and healing in life.

Have you heard of EDITH BURNS?

Edith Burns was a wonderful Christian who lived in San Antonio, Texas . She was the patient of a doctor by the name of Will Phillips. Dr. Phillips was a gentle doctor who saw patients as people. His favorite patient was Edith Burns.  One morning he went to his office with a heavy heart and it was because of Edith Burns.  When he walked into that waiting room, there sat Edith with her big black Bible in her lap earnestly talking to a young mother sitting beside her.  Edith Burns had a habit of introducing herself in this way: "Hello, my name is Edith Burns.  Do you believe in Easter?" Then she would explain the meaning of Easter, and many times people would be saved.  Dr. Phillips walked into that office and there he saw the head nurse, Beverly. Beverly had first met Edith when she was taking her blood pressure. Edith began by saying,"My name is Edith Burns. Do you believe in Easter?"  Beverly said, "Why yes I do."  Edith said, "Well, what do you ...

wash feet, sharing hope

John 13:4-5,14 NLT  So he got up from the table, took off his robe, wrapped a towel around his waist, 5 and poured water into a basin. Then he began to wash the disciples’ feet, drying them with the towel he had around him… 14 And since I, your Lord and Teacher, have washed your feet, you ought to wash each other’s feet. Jesus set the example we follow.  He served.  He valued and gave value to others.  That is why we choose to serve. For 18 years our church has shared an outreach called back2school, and for 16 of those years we have chosen to give students brand new shoes and socks as well as washing their feet.  It is one of the most important parts of this event. Washing feet is a humbling experience where both the give and the receiver learn how to share some moments that might change their lives.  Jesus said we should do this.  See the verse above.  Follow His example, do what He did, and give far more than you will ever know....
