relying on God's power

We have had some terrible storms in our area the past couple weeks.  Yes, we were gone some of that time, and we’ve heard there were thunderstorms then too.  Even last night the lighting and thunder were ominous.  I love and hate storms.

The first storm brought with it lots of damage due to high winds.  Some in our area lost their power, electricity, and some people who live north and east of us have not had power for 10 days or more.  We rely on power an awful lot.

God intends for us to rely on power, but not the kind that makes our lights, air conditioning and microwaves work.  It is His power that we must rely on.

But I will reveal my name to my people, and they will come to know its power. Then at last they will recognize that I am the one who speaks to them.”

How does God reveal to us His power?  As we follow God, we will come to know and trust His power.  We will learn to live with it and crave it more and more.  We can and must learn to rely on the power of God.

When we don’t rely on God’s power, we are in trouble and will fail.  His power helps us deal with difficult times.  His power gives us the words to say when we might say the wrong thing.  His power allows us to have peace when there is a war going on around us.  Have you come to know the power of God?

LORD, there is no one like you! For you are great, and your name is full of power.

Jeremiah said that there is nothing like the power of God.  By experience, he understood that there is nothing to compare with the power of God as He is full of power and able to do any thing in and through our lives.  God wants to make a difference in us and through us.  He wants to let others see the power that we have experienced.

Only by your power can we push back our enemies; only in your name can we trample our foes.

Is life too hard for you?  Is your situation overpowering you or discouraging you?  Plug into and rely on God’s power to help you through.  Nothing can stand up against the power of God.  Relying on God’s power will change our lives and the lives of the people we meet.

wash feet, sharing hope

John 13:4-5,14 NLT  So he got up from the table, took off his robe, wrapped a towel around his waist, 5 and poured water into a basin. Then he began to wash the disciples’ feet, drying them with the towel he had around him… 14 And since I, your Lord and Teacher, have washed your feet, you ought to wash each other’s feet. Jesus set the example we follow.  He served.  He valued and gave value to others.  That is why we choose to serve. For 18 years our church has shared an outreach called back2school, and for 16 of those years we have chosen to give students brand new shoes and socks as well as washing their feet.  It is one of the most important parts of this event. Washing feet is a humbling experience where both the give and the receiver learn how to share some moments that might change their lives.  Jesus said we should do this.  See the verse above.  Follow His example, do what He did, and give far more than you will ever know....

Have you heard of EDITH BURNS?

Edith Burns was a wonderful Christian who lived in San Antonio, Texas . She was the patient of a doctor by the name of Will Phillips. Dr. Phillips was a gentle doctor who saw patients as people. His favorite patient was Edith Burns.  One morning he went to his office with a heavy heart and it was because of Edith Burns.  When he walked into that waiting room, there sat Edith with her big black Bible in her lap earnestly talking to a young mother sitting beside her.  Edith Burns had a habit of introducing herself in this way: "Hello, my name is Edith Burns.  Do you believe in Easter?" Then she would explain the meaning of Easter, and many times people would be saved.  Dr. Phillips walked into that office and there he saw the head nurse, Beverly. Beverly had first met Edith when she was taking her blood pressure. Edith began by saying,"My name is Edith Burns. Do you believe in Easter?"  Beverly said, "Why yes I do."  Edith said, "Well, what do you ...
