2 days till back2school

From his abundance we have all received one gracious blessing after another.

I learned a fact about God years ago that continue to be show true over and over.  Henry Blackaby in his book Experiencing God wrote this: watch to see who God brings into your church to see what God wants to do in your church.

I believe that and have experienced it, but I’d like to take this to a new level.  Many of us look at our church and see it as a great force for God.  It is, yet we are so much stronger when we work with other churches and Christians that we don’t attend church with on a regular basis.  Maybe the statement really is this: watch to see who God brings into your life to see what God wants to do in your life.  Does that make sense to you?

For everything comes from him and exists by his power and is intended for his glory. All glory to him forever! Amen.

When you talk about church with a little “c”, it is about the local church where one group of people gather, serve and worship.  When you talk about Church with a big “C”, you are talking about all of God’s kids who worship in many different places and serve in all kinds of ways.  It is time that we take the focus off of doing our own thing or protecting our territory or competing with others.  It is time we join forces to serve God and make a difference in our world.

The back2school outreach that we are part of is just such an event.  There are 3 churches working together and people from many churches taking part in serving 1,500 students who signed up to be part.  It is amazing.  The last few months, weeks, days and even hours have been incredible.  People that I didn’t know a few weeks ago have added big pieces and prepare us to serve in greater ways.

Are you pushing the agenda of your church and seeking to grow the church you attend, or are you seeking to give glory to God and grow His church?  It is time to set aside the things that divide us and work together in the ways we agree and in how we can help people.  It is time to stop telling people what we are against and let people know what we, God’s church, are in favor of.  Stop isolating yourself and others and start being the church, a living and breathing example of who Jesus and what Jesus did.

God has more in store for you and His church than we often are aware of.  My prayer is that we will get on our heart what God has on His heart and begin doing what God has called us to do.  There are many people who need to see God.

And all the believers met together in one place and shared everything they had…all the while praising God and enjoying the goodwill of all the people. And each day the Lord added to their fellowship those who were being saved.

back2school is doing just that.  We are sharing with those who have needs.  Each church and each person is using the gifts and skills God has given them to be part of the process and making this a huge success.  I can’t wait to see how God uses this event and how He continues to use His people.  This is gonna be awesome.  You can still join in!!!

Catalyst ticket arrived

My ticket to the Catalyst Conference, in Atlanta Oct 8-10, just arrived. I'm excited!

Have you heard of EDITH BURNS?

Edith Burns was a wonderful Christian who lived in San Antonio, Texas . She was the patient of a doctor by the name of Will Phillips. Dr. Phillips was a gentle doctor who saw patients as people. His favorite patient was Edith Burns.  One morning he went to his office with a heavy heart and it was because of Edith Burns.  When he walked into that waiting room, there sat Edith with her big black Bible in her lap earnestly talking to a young mother sitting beside her.  Edith Burns had a habit of introducing herself in this way: "Hello, my name is Edith Burns.  Do you believe in Easter?" Then she would explain the meaning of Easter, and many times people would be saved.  Dr. Phillips walked into that office and there he saw the head nurse, Beverly. Beverly had first met Edith when she was taking her blood pressure. Edith began by saying,"My name is Edith Burns. Do you believe in Easter?"  Beverly said, "Why yes I do."  Edith said, "Well, what do you ...

wash feet, sharing hope

John 13:4-5,14 NLT  So he got up from the table, took off his robe, wrapped a towel around his waist, 5 and poured water into a basin. Then he began to wash the disciples’ feet, drying them with the towel he had around him… 14 And since I, your Lord and Teacher, have washed your feet, you ought to wash each other’s feet. Jesus set the example we follow.  He served.  He valued and gave value to others.  That is why we choose to serve. For 18 years our church has shared an outreach called back2school, and for 16 of those years we have chosen to give students brand new shoes and socks as well as washing their feet.  It is one of the most important parts of this event. Washing feet is a humbling experience where both the give and the receiver learn how to share some moments that might change their lives.  Jesus said we should do this.  See the verse above.  Follow His example, do what He did, and give far more than you will ever know....
