3 days till back2school

On the contrary, it is much truer that the members of the body which seem to be weaker are necessary;

Tuesday night was incredible as about 50 people gathered at a warehouse here in our town to put together 2,000 backpacks stuffed with school supplies.  The warehouse was really hot.  But the place was filled with excitement.

All three churches (Mt. Calvary, Mercy Crossing and The Community Fellowship) were represented, and as we finished packing the backpacks for each church, a leader would pray for the students who will be served at each place.  The smiles on each volunteer’s face was telling.  No complaints were heard.  Lots of laughs could be heard.  Each person from all three churches realized that this is a big deal.  Working together is going to show our community that God loves people and that we can work together for a great cause.

One of the biggest pieces of this weekend won’t even happen on the weekend.  This will be our greatest year and event ever.  On Friday over 30 students will come to take part in back2school 2012, but many of these students have special needs.  Some of these kids have a hard time getting around.  Some of them have a hard time being around other kids.  One of them is even battling cancer.

A few volunteers will join forces to give some of their time to love on some kids that are often left out.  There are people who say these kids aren’t important, but I beg to differ.  Often those who are overlooked or pushed aside are the very ones that need our attention and so deserve to be shown the love of God.

I can’t wait to share.  I can’t wait to help honor these families.  I can’t wait to watch these children have their feet washed, get items for school and hear about Jesus.  Pray with me for the ministry and outreach time happening this weekend, and pray especially for these special and awesome kids who deserve to be honored.

One of the overwhelming facts about back2school is that we are here to share the love of God with students in our community.  By meeting needs we win the right to share what God has done for us.  Join us in serving more than 1,500 kids.  Volunteer.  Give.  Pray.  Thank you for being a part of our biggest outreach project of the year!

Love each other with genuine affection, and take delight in honoring each other.

Catalyst ticket arrived

My ticket to the Catalyst Conference, in Atlanta Oct 8-10, just arrived. I'm excited!

Have you heard of EDITH BURNS?

Edith Burns was a wonderful Christian who lived in San Antonio, Texas . She was the patient of a doctor by the name of Will Phillips. Dr. Phillips was a gentle doctor who saw patients as people. His favorite patient was Edith Burns.  One morning he went to his office with a heavy heart and it was because of Edith Burns.  When he walked into that waiting room, there sat Edith with her big black Bible in her lap earnestly talking to a young mother sitting beside her.  Edith Burns had a habit of introducing herself in this way: "Hello, my name is Edith Burns.  Do you believe in Easter?" Then she would explain the meaning of Easter, and many times people would be saved.  Dr. Phillips walked into that office and there he saw the head nurse, Beverly. Beverly had first met Edith when she was taking her blood pressure. Edith began by saying,"My name is Edith Burns. Do you believe in Easter?"  Beverly said, "Why yes I do."  Edith said, "Well, what do you ...

wash feet, sharing hope

  John 13:4-5,14 NLT  So he got up from the table, took off his robe, wrapped a towel around his waist, 5 and poured water into a basin. Then he began to wash the disciples’ feet, drying them with the towel he had around him… 14 And since I, your Lord and Teacher, have washed your feet, you ought to wash each other’s feet. Jesus set the example we follow.  He served.  He valued and gave value to others.  That is why we choose to serve. For 18 years our church has shared an outreach called back2school, and for 16 of those years we have chosen to give students brand new shoes and socks as well as washing their feet.  It is one of the most important parts of this event. Washing feet is a humbling experience where both the give and the receiver learn how to share some moments that might change their lives.  Jesus said we should do this.  See the verse above.  Follow His example, do what He did, and give far more than you will ever know....
