I
remember as a child experiencing a horrible flood in our community. Our home was on high ground and safe, but
many neighborhoods around our church were under water and people were hurting. Even our pastor’s home was flooded. The coming days brought lots of help from
friends across the region.
This
is a story that has been shared many times and in many situations where the
weather and tough circumstances took people in a direction that was extremely
painful. Many times uncontrollable
floods are filled with turmoil, but there are other times when the floods are a
good thing.
I pray that your hearts will be flooded
with light so that you can understand the confident hope he has given to those
he called—his holy people who are his rich and glorious inheritance.
Paul
was not pleading with God about the flooding brought on by water. He was talking about the God of the universe,
the God of creation, our Savior and Lord giving His strength and truth to
people who are seeking Him. I prayed
this morning this pray for our staff and leaders at The Community Fellowship. It is a powerful thought that reminds me what
we have to be desperate for.
The
floods that followed the hurricane that hit the Gulf coast a few years ago were
horrible. Many areas of Louisiana and
Mississippi, New Orleans and Biloxi will never recover. The flooding brought destruction and
change. But when God floods our lives
with His truth, our lives will never be the same. We will not be destroyed. We will be strengthened and left forever
different.
Spend
some time with these verses from Ephesians 1, and may God literally flood our
lives with His best, His blessing and His truth that changes us and others
forever!
He has showered his kindness on us,
along with all wisdom and understanding.
God has now revealed to
us his mysterious plan regarding Christ, a plan to fulfill his own good
pleasure.
And this is the plan: At the right time
he will bring everything together under the authority of Christ—everything in
heaven and on earth. Furthermore,
because we are united with Christ, we have received an inheritance from God,
for he chose us in advance, and he makes everything work
out according to his plan…The Spirit is God’s guarantee that he will give us
the inheritance he promised and that he has purchased us to be his own people.
He did this so we would praise and glorify him.
Thank
you, God, for your goodness and grace.
Please flood our hearts and our lives with you. Change us and use us to help others see you
and be forever changed. Thank you for
your truth. This we pray in Jesus’ name,
Amen.
