what do you like?

As for me, may I never boast about anything except the cross of our Lord Jesus Christ. Because of that cross, my interest in this world has been crucified, and the world’s interest in me has also died.

What is it that really gets your mind going and your heart pumping?  What do you like?  There are so many answers that we can give.  Some people would talk about where they like go.  Others will share about the food that they love to eat.  Some people will talk about things that they love to do.  We all have things that we like.

But do we like the things that God likes?  That is a tough question because lots of people believe that to follow God you have to be stuffy and not have any fun.  That is just not true.  Be honest.  Do you think that you have to give up all kinds of fun things so you can do what God likes?  Nothing could be further from the truth.

The more we follow God the more our likes become what God likes.  No, He won’t take away all our fun things.  But God will help us like the things that really matter and things that will make a difference longer than a few minutes or even a few days.

Examining what we like can give us great insight into how we are following God and how much we are leaning on Him.  Are we boasting or shouting about things that are tied to what we do and who we are, or are we sharing what God has done and is doing around us?

Coming to see the cross where Jesus took all our sin, we will do life differently, see life differently and begin to like and love things that God loves.  Our interests will change.  No longer will our interests or even our investments be tied to this world.  They will be linked to God and to what lasts.

God didn’t call us to waste our time, resources and likes on things that don’t matter.  God desires to change our desires.  He will if we let Him.  Stop being scared of allowing God to work in your life.  Let go of things that are wasteful and getting you nowhere.  Start doing the things that you like to do that bring God lots of glory.  He wants us to enjoy life.  What do you like?

Take delight in the LORD, and he will give you your heart’s desires.

wash feet, sharing hope

John 13:4-5,14 NLT  So he got up from the table, took off his robe, wrapped a towel around his waist, 5 and poured water into a basin. Then he began to wash the disciples’ feet, drying them with the towel he had around him… 14 And since I, your Lord and Teacher, have washed your feet, you ought to wash each other’s feet. Jesus set the example we follow.  He served.  He valued and gave value to others.  That is why we choose to serve. For 18 years our church has shared an outreach called back2school, and for 16 of those years we have chosen to give students brand new shoes and socks as well as washing their feet.  It is one of the most important parts of this event. Washing feet is a humbling experience where both the give and the receiver learn how to share some moments that might change their lives.  Jesus said we should do this.  See the verse above.  Follow His example, do what He did, and give far more than you will ever know....

Have you heard of EDITH BURNS?

Edith Burns was a wonderful Christian who lived in San Antonio, Texas . She was the patient of a doctor by the name of Will Phillips. Dr. Phillips was a gentle doctor who saw patients as people. His favorite patient was Edith Burns.  One morning he went to his office with a heavy heart and it was because of Edith Burns.  When he walked into that waiting room, there sat Edith with her big black Bible in her lap earnestly talking to a young mother sitting beside her.  Edith Burns had a habit of introducing herself in this way: "Hello, my name is Edith Burns.  Do you believe in Easter?" Then she would explain the meaning of Easter, and many times people would be saved.  Dr. Phillips walked into that office and there he saw the head nurse, Beverly. Beverly had first met Edith when she was taking her blood pressure. Edith began by saying,"My name is Edith Burns. Do you believe in Easter?"  Beverly said, "Why yes I do."  Edith said, "Well, what do you ...
