the events before us

Proverbs 3:25
NASB Do not be afraid of sudden fear Nor of the onslaught of the wicked when it comes; As I write this the verdict is still out on the impact of Hurricane Sandy.  Our community is under a wind warning having already been hit by some rain and the cold.  East of us there have been lives changed already.  Homes have collapsed as have community buildings and more. It is hard to understand but reality how a storm can bring such disaster on property and so much more.  But the thing that really matters is lives.  Homes can be replaced, the shoreline will be fixed, and things can be rebuilt.  Lives are gone once they are gone.  That reminds me how much importance we must put on what puts importance on.  God cherishes lives.  You and me and others. That is why this morning I began praying for the people I know who live in the past of the storm.  Through the day other people have come to mind as I watched TV or heard reports or saw people comment

LEADER: Powerful verse

I f eel like I'm just getting back into the thick of things. I don't like disconnecting and doing what seems like nothing, but it was sweet and learning. I know that God's plan over us is sure. Yet we are making a difference in many lives that we get to encounter.  So many pieces I'd like to share but here are a couple thoughts to pray over us as leaders ...  Purity and holiness ---- I'm convinced that God is purifying His servants. Too often we kick against this. We are in the world but not of it. Realize this is not legalism. This is the understanding that how our lives and our choices tend to get in the way of what God wants to do is not good.  Keep dreaming the dream, seeing and seizing the vision ---- have you ever noticed that God seemed to cut you off from being able to see or feel or even see further? I believe we cut ourselves off when our pursuit of Him is waning.  Pursuing Him with gusto --- I can't wait for what the future holds for us. Incredible. L

have you seen any of these people?

Deuteronomy 15:10-11 NLT Give generously to the poor, not grudgingly, for the Lord your God will bless you in everything you do. There will always be some in the land who are poor. That is why I am commanding you to share freely with the poor and with other Israelites in need. A couple years ago I got word from a friend about a man who lived down the street from me.  I finally went to meet him, and that was the beginning of a great friendship.  He had been out of work for a while and was making ends meet as best he could.  He is a proud dude who has trouble asking for help, but when I found out a few ways to help, our church and I stepped up. Now that same man who has been through even more battles since has given his heart to Jesus, has no more desire to drink and he won’t miss a day spending time with God and in his Bible.  Have you seen this man? I met a lady on Facebook a couple years ago.  She and her kids were struggling big time.  Her marriage

the forgotten

As I said yesterday, this has been a strange week, yet along these days I have been able to gain some perspective and hear some things and even feel some pain that would not have been in my mind had I not slowed down. Thursday God brought some of these to mind as I stopped to run an errand.  He brought to my mind the forgotten.  I am talking about people that we care about and have been kind to.  But that was some time ago.  In the past days they have become the forgotten. This is the person who lost a loved some time ago.  We ministered to them and loved on them, but now most people have forgotten.  This is the person who had a life altering event like surgery or a baby was born or lost their job.  At the moment it happen we reached out, but since that time they have become the forgotten. Have you ever felt like you have been forgotten?  Have you ever realized that you forgot someone?  This happens when people step away from church and seem to step a

at the end of the street

This is a strange week.  I am spending most of my time away from church and not connecting with people.  That is not because I want to.  It is because I am trying to rest and get well.  I love what I do for a living, the people I get to interact with and the things that God is doing in so many lives. But I have been there.  I’ve been at the end of the street after a long day when it seems like there is nothing else to do or there is no more energy to exert or there are no more resources to share.  It is at that point that we find the best things to share.  That is where God shows up in and through us.  It is when we begin to be Jesus’ hands and feet and love to the people we interact with. Here is a challenge when you are at the end of the street. Hebrews 12:12 (NLT) So take a new grip with your tired hands and strengthen your weak knees. Take a new grip.  Refresh yourself so that you can see and be ready to help others.  It is God that helps us take a
