candy - NASCAR - pink - this Sunday

Hello Community family -

Fall is here and a lot is going on.  Just wanted to give you an update on some items as well as opportunities to serve, worship and love others.

Halloween FAMILY NIGHT — we need CANDY.  Did you hear that?  We need lots of CANDY.  Please bring candy in bags and individually wrapped to church this Sunday.  Currently we have about 1/3 of what we will need.  Family night is WEDNESDAY, OCT 31 from 6 to 9pm where we will serve food to lots people and have lots of fun.  Volunteers are needed.  Trunk-or-treat cars are needed.  See Michelle Kasey for more details and to sign up

NASCAR comes to town & RACEWAY MINISTRIES needs you — here is another chance to serve people we don't typically get to serve.  Refreshments.  Handing out Gospel tracts.  Golf Cart drivers.  Servants.  Prayers.  Lots of help needed Friday thru Sunday, Oct 26 thru 28.  Sign up today by emailing Lee Hobbs at kwik8828@yahoo.com or see him at church.

THIS SUNDAY (Oct 21st) on the BLUE RIDGE PARKWAY — everyone is invited to meet at 3:30pm at the Rocky Knob recreation area (near mile post 174 on the parkway which is south of were route 8 crosses the parkway).  Hot dogs, hot dog buns and chili will be provided.  Please bring drinks, mustard, ketchup, hot dogs fixings and all the extras that go with hot dogs (enough for you and others).  Also bring your chairs and coats.  This will be a great time of being together.

Wear PINK to church this Sunday (Oct 21st) —
in honor of breast cancer awareness we are turning the church pink on Sunday.  Wear pink.  This will encourage all those in our family who have battled cancer including our own Jennifer McDaniel Terry.  During worship there will also be some surprises including special music and even a choir.  Are you ready?

This Sunday we move in Romans chapter 8 in the CONSUMED series.  I am excited about all the Lord is teaching us about our faith, yet it is also evident that our faith is being stretched.  Continue to pray for your church leaders as we move forward looking at new buildings and the growth of the church.

God called us to demonstrate the love of God to our community and beyond.  Each of these things will do just that.  Each week we get to minister to many, many people.  Pray that lives will be changed.  I look forward to seeing you this weekend as we experience life together by the goodness of God!

With GOD as my guide,

Pastor Michael Harrison
–James 1:5

wash feet, sharing hope

John 13:4-5,14 NLT  So he got up from the table, took off his robe, wrapped a towel around his waist, 5 and poured water into a basin. Then he began to wash the disciples’ feet, drying them with the towel he had around him… 14 And since I, your Lord and Teacher, have washed your feet, you ought to wash each other’s feet. Jesus set the example we follow.  He served.  He valued and gave value to others.  That is why we choose to serve. For 18 years our church has shared an outreach called back2school, and for 16 of those years we have chosen to give students brand new shoes and socks as well as washing their feet.  It is one of the most important parts of this event. Washing feet is a humbling experience where both the give and the receiver learn how to share some moments that might change their lives.  Jesus said we should do this.  See the verse above.  Follow His example, do what He did, and give far more than you will ever know....

Have you heard of EDITH BURNS?

Edith Burns was a wonderful Christian who lived in San Antonio, Texas . She was the patient of a doctor by the name of Will Phillips. Dr. Phillips was a gentle doctor who saw patients as people. His favorite patient was Edith Burns.  One morning he went to his office with a heavy heart and it was because of Edith Burns.  When he walked into that waiting room, there sat Edith with her big black Bible in her lap earnestly talking to a young mother sitting beside her.  Edith Burns had a habit of introducing herself in this way: "Hello, my name is Edith Burns.  Do you believe in Easter?" Then she would explain the meaning of Easter, and many times people would be saved.  Dr. Phillips walked into that office and there he saw the head nurse, Beverly. Beverly had first met Edith when she was taking her blood pressure. Edith began by saying,"My name is Edith Burns. Do you believe in Easter?"  Beverly said, "Why yes I do."  Edith said, "Well, what do you ...
