heart on the line

My heart is focused on people.  To see people hurt and go through tough times tugs at my heart and gets my mind and hands going.  Serving others is what God has called me to do and to lead others to do.  I find fulfillment, strength and real confidence in begin able to be there for others and lifting them as God allows.

This heart stuff is so difficult.  As people continue to make poor and painful or destructive choices, my heart is torn a part.  That is where God has to get involved in my heart and my emotions as well as in the way I serve people.  It is super easy to grow cold toward hurting people.  It is also easy to get so wrapped up in a family’s situation or in a person’s life that I am not able to serve or help other people.

The balance is very difficult.  You notice well that if you are not allowing God to pour into your life or if you are not letting others serve you that you have nothing at all to share with others.

Putting your heart on the line is not easy, but it is a high and holy calling from God.  I have long believed that real ministry is messy.  Hurting people need to see the love of God displayed and shared with them.  We become the hands and feet and heart and love of God as we extend grace to the people we come in contact with.  I can’t turn my head to avoid someone that has a need.  We literally are people of a second chance because God has given us a second chance.

Understanding how much God loves me helps me put my heart on the line for others.  Jesus said this phrase several times: “he who has ears to hear let him hear”.  In other words “since you care listen up”.  Give it a try now…

You must be compassionate, just as your Father is compassionate. Do Not Judge Others

Light shines in the darkness for the godly. They are generous, compassionate, and righteous.

Since God chose you to be the holy people he loves, you must clothe yourselves with tenderhearted mercy, kindness, humility, gentleness, and patience.

In the same way, let your good deeds shine out for all to see, so that everyone will praise your heavenly Father…

Put your heart on the line for the people around you.  Let God do what He does best… change lives one life at a time.  God will use your heart.  God will refresh you and give you grace.  What you have been through opens the way for you to serve others in similar ways that you have gone through.

Let’s put our heart on the line for Jesus.

wash feet, sharing hope

John 13:4-5,14 NLT  So he got up from the table, took off his robe, wrapped a towel around his waist, 5 and poured water into a basin. Then he began to wash the disciples’ feet, drying them with the towel he had around him… 14 And since I, your Lord and Teacher, have washed your feet, you ought to wash each other’s feet. Jesus set the example we follow.  He served.  He valued and gave value to others.  That is why we choose to serve. For 18 years our church has shared an outreach called back2school, and for 16 of those years we have chosen to give students brand new shoes and socks as well as washing their feet.  It is one of the most important parts of this event. Washing feet is a humbling experience where both the give and the receiver learn how to share some moments that might change their lives.  Jesus said we should do this.  See the verse above.  Follow His example, do what He did, and give far more than you will ever know....

Have you heard of EDITH BURNS?

Edith Burns was a wonderful Christian who lived in San Antonio, Texas . She was the patient of a doctor by the name of Will Phillips. Dr. Phillips was a gentle doctor who saw patients as people. His favorite patient was Edith Burns.  One morning he went to his office with a heavy heart and it was because of Edith Burns.  When he walked into that waiting room, there sat Edith with her big black Bible in her lap earnestly talking to a young mother sitting beside her.  Edith Burns had a habit of introducing herself in this way: "Hello, my name is Edith Burns.  Do you believe in Easter?" Then she would explain the meaning of Easter, and many times people would be saved.  Dr. Phillips walked into that office and there he saw the head nurse, Beverly. Beverly had first met Edith when she was taking her blood pressure. Edith began by saying,"My name is Edith Burns. Do you believe in Easter?"  Beverly said, "Why yes I do."  Edith said, "Well, what do you ...
