some firsts

As I write this post I have just left a meeting that I have not attended before.  Lots of learning.  But it is one of those places you are glad to be part of, but thank God there is a bigger reason for what we do.

That might be confusing, but I believe that God intends for us to live our lives with purpose and with passion.  These is no reason to live from day to day and year to year going no where.  God’s plan is for our success and for abundant life.  His desire is for us to enjoy life.

I love the first of each month.  It brings some things that start over again.  The budget starts over each month.  Reading the Bible is part of my every day, but the first of the month brings me back to the beginning of Proverbs and of Psalms.  These are incredible verses.  Let me share a few with you:

Fear of the LORD is the foundation of true knowledge,
but fools despise wisdom and discipline… But all who listen to me will live in peace,
 untroubled by fear of harm.”

That is powerful truth that we ought to start the month with and every day as well.  What happens when we lack wisdom or when there is no sign of real peace in our lives?  Trouble comes.  Lots of fear comes in.

How blessed is the man who does not walk in the counsel of the wicked, Nor stand in the path of sinners, Nor sit in the seat of scoffers!  But his delight is in the law of the Lord, And in His law he meditates day and night.

God has given us wisdom, and He has also provided blessings for our lives as we follow Him.  Who do we trust?  Are we spending time with the right people or the wrong people?

It is God’s words that feeds our lives with good things, with wisdom, with the truth of God’s peace and that changes those who put it inside their lives.  That is why the first of the month brings some great things my direction.

Try it for yourself.  Spend time in God’s word each day.  Use the verses you read as part of your prayer time.  Notice that the things that God says are useful to your life.  He is preparing you for greater days.  Let it sink in!
