where did that come from?

Have you had conversations, as I have, with people who living with huge amounts of fear?  I talk to many people who are going through some of the toughest things in life.  Some of them are overcome with fear because the future is uncertain, yet I have met some other people who are in the midst of disaster and major struggles.  But those people have a much different perspective.

The people who aren’t living in fear are leaning on someone much bigger than them.  Their fear has been given to and taken away by someone who can do more than any human can do.  Of coarse I am talking about God.  What do you do when everything is up in air or uncertain?

Lets change our perspective.  Lets trust what God says.  What would change if we did that?  The way we response to disaster and fear would change.

My child, don’t lose sight of common sense and discernment.  Hang on to them, 22 for they will refresh your soul.  They are like jewels on a necklace. 23 They keep you safe on your way, and your feet will not stumble. 24 You can go to bed without fear; you will lie down and sleep soundly. 25 You need not be afraid of sudden disaster or the destruction that comes upon the wicked, 26 for the LORD is your security.  He will keep your foot from being caught in a trap.

Perspective changes everything.  Common sense is what God gives us as He provides wisdom and insight.  Hanging on to that will not only refresh us but will allow us to go to bed at night without fear and not worry when we get up in the morning because you’ve got peace in your heart.

Is what we are worrying about or fearful of more powerful than God?  Your answer will tell you and others what you believe about God.  I believe God is able.  He can and will take our fears and help us through the times that might destroy our lives if we let them.  That is, if we allow God to be our security.

I have to ask this question: where did that come from?  I ask that of people who walk by faith, but when their world is falling apart, they end up in terror and afraid.  It is in those times that we see where our faith finds foundation and if our belief in God works or doesn’t work.  May God teach us to trust Him more when times aren’t so easy!

wash feet, sharing hope

John 13:4-5,14 NLT  So he got up from the table, took off his robe, wrapped a towel around his waist, 5 and poured water into a basin. Then he began to wash the disciples’ feet, drying them with the towel he had around him… 14 And since I, your Lord and Teacher, have washed your feet, you ought to wash each other’s feet. Jesus set the example we follow.  He served.  He valued and gave value to others.  That is why we choose to serve. For 18 years our church has shared an outreach called back2school, and for 16 of those years we have chosen to give students brand new shoes and socks as well as washing their feet.  It is one of the most important parts of this event. Washing feet is a humbling experience where both the give and the receiver learn how to share some moments that might change their lives.  Jesus said we should do this.  See the verse above.  Follow His example, do what He did, and give far more than you will ever know....

Have you heard of EDITH BURNS?

Edith Burns was a wonderful Christian who lived in San Antonio, Texas . She was the patient of a doctor by the name of Will Phillips. Dr. Phillips was a gentle doctor who saw patients as people. His favorite patient was Edith Burns.  One morning he went to his office with a heavy heart and it was because of Edith Burns.  When he walked into that waiting room, there sat Edith with her big black Bible in her lap earnestly talking to a young mother sitting beside her.  Edith Burns had a habit of introducing herself in this way: "Hello, my name is Edith Burns.  Do you believe in Easter?" Then she would explain the meaning of Easter, and many times people would be saved.  Dr. Phillips walked into that office and there he saw the head nurse, Beverly. Beverly had first met Edith when she was taking her blood pressure. Edith began by saying,"My name is Edith Burns. Do you believe in Easter?"  Beverly said, "Why yes I do."  Edith said, "Well, what do you ...
