insight for daily life

FOR DAILY LIFE

Some days we have to take a lesson from the Bible.  It is the kind of day that you just get through.  There is little drive or energy through the day.  That is when we have we need something bigger and stronger and that has more meaning than we do.

In those times God reminds me that my potential is not based on how I feel or what I think.  My potential is based on what God has done and what He has built into my life.

Believe what God says about you.  As Pastor Steven Furtick said in a sermon I heard him preach … “You are doing better than you think you are doing … You matter more than you think you do … It’s less about you than you think it is.”  Those are big true statements that will change the way we think.

As our thinking changes our actions will change.  We will impact others even when our feelings are out of sorts or we aren’t even feeling well or have no energy.  God will use us to encourage those we encounter when we believe His truth and shine with the light He has given us.

“You are the salt of the earth.  But what good is salt if it has lost its flavor?  Can you make it salty again?  It will be thrown out and trampled underfoot as worthless.  “You are the light of the world—like a city on a hilltop that cannot be hidden.  No one lights a lamp and then puts it under a basket. Instead, a lamp is placed on a stand, where it gives light to everyone in the house.  In the same way, let your good deeds shine out for all to see, so that everyone will praise your heavenly Father.

Salt gives something flavor.  As Christians we give flavor to the world and the people that we are around.  Salt is only good if it is used.  Leave salt on the shelf or simply chose not to use it and it is no good.

Light makes our moving so much easier.  Not only does it help us as we move through life, but the light around us will help others in huge ways.  This light that God talks about comes from inside of us.  Jesus shines through us.  You don’t hide the light.  You let it stand and shine and share with others.

As we use the salt that God has given us and shine the light that God put in us we will see that God has given us insight for daily life.

God, help us give this world flavor and shine so that others see you and not us.  May we truly believe that we are doing better than we think we are doing.  I confess that it is all about you and not me!  That is true insight for daily life.

wash feet, sharing hope

John 13:4-5,14 NLT  So he got up from the table, took off his robe, wrapped a towel around his waist, 5 and poured water into a basin. Then he began to wash the disciples’ feet, drying them with the towel he had around him… 14 And since I, your Lord and Teacher, have washed your feet, you ought to wash each other’s feet. Jesus set the example we follow.  He served.  He valued and gave value to others.  That is why we choose to serve. For 18 years our church has shared an outreach called back2school, and for 16 of those years we have chosen to give students brand new shoes and socks as well as washing their feet.  It is one of the most important parts of this event. Washing feet is a humbling experience where both the give and the receiver learn how to share some moments that might change their lives.  Jesus said we should do this.  See the verse above.  Follow His example, do what He did, and give far more than you will ever know....

Have you heard of EDITH BURNS?

Edith Burns was a wonderful Christian who lived in San Antonio, Texas . She was the patient of a doctor by the name of Will Phillips. Dr. Phillips was a gentle doctor who saw patients as people. His favorite patient was Edith Burns.  One morning he went to his office with a heavy heart and it was because of Edith Burns.  When he walked into that waiting room, there sat Edith with her big black Bible in her lap earnestly talking to a young mother sitting beside her.  Edith Burns had a habit of introducing herself in this way: "Hello, my name is Edith Burns.  Do you believe in Easter?" Then she would explain the meaning of Easter, and many times people would be saved.  Dr. Phillips walked into that office and there he saw the head nurse, Beverly. Beverly had first met Edith when she was taking her blood pressure. Edith began by saying,"My name is Edith Burns. Do you believe in Easter?"  Beverly said, "Why yes I do."  Edith said, "Well, what do you ...
