ready, set, grow

There is a powerful thing happening that floors me every time I think about it.  By the way, this post is going to be somewhat personal.  In the last 8 days and incredible thing has happened around our church.  4 people have accepted Jesus as their Savior.

No.  That’s not out of the ordinary.  At many churches and other places people are coming to know Jesus, but we’ve been praying and preparing for what God is going to do.  We believe that God prepared the church and her people for amazing things and great days.  I am reminded often that real life, the important things and what will last is people.  Not buildings or money or programs.  People are what matter to God.

Each of these 4 people are precious.  I’ve known them for a long time, and look what God has done.  I then turn to a meeting that I was in with some of my closest partners and friends, and the conversation goes in a direction that I wasn’t expecting.  I heard about what God is doing and how things have changed since several people have been listening closer to God.

God is up to some incredible things, and what I really desire is to see many lives change one at a time.  This is why God placed me where I am.  My kids are so cool.  All three of them and my wife know Jesus.  My son gave me a big hug before I left for a meeting today.  I love to hear the kids pray each night before we go to bed.

We must prepare ourselves for what God is doing, but if we are not watching or listening or seeking, we are going to miss what God is doing.  Literally the most important things in our lives are the people and the relationships that God brought into our lives.  I believe people are what we are to pour our lives and our impact in to.

John 3:21
NLT
But those who do what is right come to the light so others can see that they are doing what God wants.

Romans 9:3
NLT
for my people, my Jewish brothers and sisters. I would be willing to be forever cursed—cut off from Christ!—if that would save them.

The Lord isn’t really being slow about his promise, as some people think. No, he is being patient for your sake. He does not want anyone to be destroyed, but wants everyone to repent.

Are we missing what is important in life?  Do we care that some people don’t know Jesus?  That is what really matter.  Remember what gets me going is lives being changed.  God changed me, and I believe He has changed many of you.  He is ready to change others.

Ready, set, grow.

Let your roots grow down into him, and let your lives be built on him. Then your faith will grow strong in the truth you were taught, and you will overflow with thankfulness.

Have you heard of EDITH BURNS?

Edith Burns was a wonderful Christian who lived in San Antonio, Texas . She was the patient of a doctor by the name of Will Phillips. Dr. Phillips was a gentle doctor who saw patients as people. His favorite patient was Edith Burns.  One morning he went to his office with a heavy heart and it was because of Edith Burns.  When he walked into that waiting room, there sat Edith with her big black Bible in her lap earnestly talking to a young mother sitting beside her.  Edith Burns had a habit of introducing herself in this way: "Hello, my name is Edith Burns.  Do you believe in Easter?" Then she would explain the meaning of Easter, and many times people would be saved.  Dr. Phillips walked into that office and there he saw the head nurse, Beverly. Beverly had first met Edith when she was taking her blood pressure. Edith began by saying,"My name is Edith Burns. Do you believe in Easter?"  Beverly said, "Why yes I do."  Edith said, "Well, what do you ...

wash feet, sharing hope

John 13:4-5,14 NLT  So he got up from the table, took off his robe, wrapped a towel around his waist, 5 and poured water into a basin. Then he began to wash the disciples’ feet, drying them with the towel he had around him… 14 And since I, your Lord and Teacher, have washed your feet, you ought to wash each other’s feet. Jesus set the example we follow.  He served.  He valued and gave value to others.  That is why we choose to serve. For 18 years our church has shared an outreach called back2school, and for 16 of those years we have chosen to give students brand new shoes and socks as well as washing their feet.  It is one of the most important parts of this event. Washing feet is a humbling experience where both the give and the receiver learn how to share some moments that might change their lives.  Jesus said we should do this.  See the verse above.  Follow His example, do what He did, and give far more than you will ever know....
