new possibilities ahead

For sometime I have been thinking about the possibilities of 2013.  With all that has gone on in 2012, it is evident that God is working in us and through us to do much in the upcoming year.  I believe that with all my heart.

Heading in that direction I would like to share a couple thoughts that God won’t let leave my mind and my heart.  Yet I also want to give you the premise or the foundation that I speak from.  I believe that God is in charge of all possibilities and that He still does miracles.  Further, God cares far more about people than he does things.  Last, God is more interested in our heart than in our ability.

With that said here are two things that God has in front of me for 2013:

We destroy every proud obstacle that keeps people from knowing God. We capture their rebellious thoughts and teach them to obey Christ.

As I have preparing for our church family to go through the Daniel fast in January I have been reading and working through a 40 day prayer challenge from Mark Batterson based on his book The Circle Maker.  In one of the readings Mark talked about this verse and how often we are encouraged to use it to deal with negative stuff that comes in our lives, but we ought to use it also for the positive.

God wants to widen our possibilities.  He wants to increase our effectiveness.  He wants to flow through us with faith that moves mountains and allow His love to flow live a flooded river out of control.  The only way for that to happen is to take captive the positive and the faith thoughts that come our direction.

Do we believe God still does miracles?  Do we believe that God has greater days ahead for us?  If we believe those things, we ought to be acting on them.  Write down what God puts in your heart.  Write down the promises that God gives you.  Don’t those things slip out of your mind and heart.

When we take those things captive, we give God the ability to work through them in our lives because we are watching, we are thinking about them and praying over them.  I have done this for several issues in my life and for many, many needs.  God shows up.  He works in ways that no one else can.  All that happens because God is able and I am ready for Him to do what God alone can do.

Therefore, since we are surrounded by such a huge crowd of witnesses to the life of faith, let us strip off every weight that slows us down, especially the sin that so easily trips us up. And let us run with endurance the race God has set before us.  We do this by keeping our eyes on Jesus, the champion who initiates and perfects our faith. Because of the joy awaiting him, he endured the cross, disregarding its shame. Now he is seated in the place of honor beside God’s throne.

I get tangled up from time to time.  Do you?  It might be because of a habit or sin in my life or from something that I have allowed to occur.  Life is not meant to be a situation of coincidence happens.  Life is meant to be a path of glory to God and abundance in our lives.

What gets in the way of God working?  What gets in the way of the abundance in our lives?  There are many answers.  But a few of the answers make me shake my head.

It is easy to take our eyes off of Jesus.  Therefore we have to chose to keep our eyes on Him.

It is easy to allow things to trip us up.  Things such as sin or possessions or relationships or any number of things keep us from following Jesus.

It could be a lack of faith.  Being saved is not just fire insurance to keep you out of help.  Faith is assurance that God can and will move in my life now.

I believe that 2013 is going to be a great year, but for that to be true in my life or in your life, there are some things that need to take place now.  If we chose to take the great thoughts captive, we might just see our greatest days and the greatest miracles.  If we don’t let ourselves get tripped up or have our focus taken off the Father, we may see things and experience things we have never seen or experienced before.

2013 will be a great year.  I am preparing for it because there are new possibilities, God possibilities ahead!

Have you heard of EDITH BURNS?

Edith Burns was a wonderful Christian who lived in San Antonio, Texas . She was the patient of a doctor by the name of Will Phillips. Dr. Phillips was a gentle doctor who saw patients as people. His favorite patient was Edith Burns.  One morning he went to his office with a heavy heart and it was because of Edith Burns.  When he walked into that waiting room, there sat Edith with her big black Bible in her lap earnestly talking to a young mother sitting beside her.  Edith Burns had a habit of introducing herself in this way: "Hello, my name is Edith Burns.  Do you believe in Easter?" Then she would explain the meaning of Easter, and many times people would be saved.  Dr. Phillips walked into that office and there he saw the head nurse, Beverly. Beverly had first met Edith when she was taking her blood pressure. Edith began by saying,"My name is Edith Burns. Do you believe in Easter?"  Beverly said, "Why yes I do."  Edith said, "Well, what do you

wash feet, sharing hope

John 13:4-5,14 NLT  So he got up from the table, took off his robe, wrapped a towel around his waist, 5 and poured water into a basin. Then he began to wash the disciples’ feet, drying them with the towel he had around him… 14 And since I, your Lord and Teacher, have washed your feet, you ought to wash each other’s feet. Jesus set the example we follow.  He served.  He valued and gave value to others.  That is why we choose to serve. For 18 years our church has shared an outreach called back2school, and for 16 of those years we have chosen to give students brand new shoes and socks as well as washing their feet.  It is one of the most important parts of this event. Washing feet is a humbling experience where both the give and the receiver learn how to share some moments that might change their lives.  Jesus said we should do this.  See the verse above.  Follow His example, do what He did, and give far more than you will ever know. That is why we choose once again to tell students and

some favorite verses, day 1

It is a new week, and there will be all kinds of opportunities for you and me.  How are we going to face those, each and every one?  Will we seek what God is doing or what feels good to us?  I challenge you to let God lead, to choose what builds you and others. Over the next several days I will share with you some of my favorite scriptures.  Each has become a “measuring stick” if you will to help guide decisions and to seek the Lord. Read this one.  Take it in.  Study it.  Meditate on it or chew on it.  Ask yourself: what is God is saying to me in these verses?  Hebrews 12:1-2  NLT   Therefore, since we are surrounded by such a huge crowd of witnesses to the life of faith, let us strip off every weight that slows us down, especially the sin that so easily trips us up.
