A spiritual
gift is given to each of us so
we can help each other.
I am preparing this coming Sunday to teach our church about
Spiritual Gifts. This is not a subject
that is foreign to people who have been in church for much time, but if you are
new to church or haven’t been a Christian very long, this may seem very
strange.
Every person who knows Jesus has been given a spiritual gift
or gifts. When we understand what God
has given us, it makes life easier or sweeter.
But too often we live from day to day or situation to situation without
understanding of how God created us or knowing the gifts we’ve been given. There are several things that a Christian
should do to understand these gifts.
The first part would include simply seeking God. Read the Bible. Seek to see what God sees and understand what
God understands. We will never get the
place where we know it all or even 1/1000th of what God knows. Yet when we seek Him, things get clearer.
Another way to understand these gifts is to spend time with
other Christians who are seeking God.
Study scripture together. Serve
and help people together. Ask questions of
each other and be honest. Often the
people around us can see how we are gifted or what our talents are.
Be sensitive to how God speaks to you. God speaks in so many different ways …
through the Bible, prayer, situations, relationships, sermons, music, nature
and the list goes on. The fact is God is
speaking to us. I’ve learned that when I
use the gifts God has given me the more satisfied and excited I am about what I
am doing.
I have asked our church family to take a spiritual gift
survey to help them to discover their spiritual gifts and to see where they
should be serving in the church. I ask
you to do the same. You can get the
spiritual gift survey we are using at this link http://thecommunityfellowship.files.wordpress.com/2013/01/spiritual-gifts-test-pdf.pdf
I pray
that God will give each of us insight into what He is doing in our lives and
how He wants to use us to help others and to bring Him glory. Seeking God begins the process, and what is
so awesome about our God is that He created us for relationships. We can be related to God by His grace. We are related to others as God saves
people. And God has called us to first
love God and then to love others. We
love by serving and sharing with others.
So,
why are asking our people to discover their spiritual gift? We are asking this because we believe that
God wants to do more through us and wants to spend more time with us. Remember that God said His desire for us is
to have and experience abundant life.
It is the one and only Spirit who distributes
all these gifts. He alone decides which
gift each person should have.

In his grace, God
has given us different gifts for doing certain things well.

God has given each of you a gift from his great
variety of spiritual gifts. Use them well to serve one another.
May God help us to serve Him and experience Him more. You have spiritual gifts. Discover them!
