the New Year, Fasting & possibility of SNOW

hello Community family -

We are well into the 2013 year, and it seems like time is flying by.  It is amazing the people who are helped by and encouraged through our church family here at The Community Fellowship.  Thank you for choosing to be part of this unique and blessed church.

I'd like to share a few things with you as the year progresses and we prepare for more growth.  Hold on.  Here we gooooooo....

The Daniel Fast is almost over and has been a blessing.  Please share your story with us of what God has done through the fast by sending your thoughts via email to info@thecommunityfellowship.org so others can celebrate with us.  The fast is scheduled to end on the 21st.  Thanks for taking part in this awesome opportunity.

If you would like to learn more about The Community Fellowship and about your walk with God, then our COMMUNITY 101 sessions would be a great place for you.  They take place 4 Sundays in a row right after our worship time beginning January 27th.  Anyone is welcome to take part.  Sign up by email to info@thecommunityfellowship.org letting us know you want to be part of the class.

Want to be part of our next baptism?  We are preparing for another awesome baptism service very soon (like in a couple weeks).  If you want to be part of this, you will need to let Pastor Michael know.  Call the church at 276-8231 or email us at info@thecommunityfellowship.org.  If you have questions, let us know.  It would be awesome if you would take this step of obedience in following Jesus in water baptism.

This week will be our 3rd session in the START series, and we will take a look at Romans 13 as a picture of how God uses our compassion to change our lives through action and desire.  It is awesome to see God change people.  He still does that.  Pray with me that God would save even more people.  Ask God to save people this week through The Community Fellowship and the worship service at 10:10 this Sunday morning.  See you there and bring a friend.

If you have not turned in the SPIRITUAL GIFTS SURVEY, please do that this Sunday. Don't forget to put your name on the survey as well.  The survey is also right here spiritual gifts test PDF

Yep.  The weather people are telling us that it might snow this evening.  I have heard everything from 1 inch to 6 inches.  Not until the snow arrives will I believe it.  Don't want to get my hopes up.  REMEMBER that our weather policy is simple... we WILL have worship no matter what BUT please be safe.  If you need to stay home because of the weather and difficulty traveling, please stay home.  If the roads are bad, take extra care.

FYI giving statements through The Community Fellowship will be available beginning Sunday, January 27th.  Continue support your church.  Without each of us doing our part we fall short of the great impact we could be making.  Please give as you can and as God directs you.

God called us to demonstrate the love of God to our community by serving the people around us with no strings attached.  Who do you know that needs prayer?  STOP AND PRAY.  Who do you know that needs to be served?  Serve them and help your church help people.

That's enough for now.  Have a great week, and I will see you Sunday!

With GOD as my guide,

Pastor Michael Harrison
James 1:5

Catalyst ticket arrived

My ticket to the Catalyst Conference, in Atlanta Oct 8-10, just arrived. I'm excited!

Have you heard of EDITH BURNS?

Edith Burns was a wonderful Christian who lived in San Antonio, Texas . She was the patient of a doctor by the name of Will Phillips. Dr. Phillips was a gentle doctor who saw patients as people. His favorite patient was Edith Burns.  One morning he went to his office with a heavy heart and it was because of Edith Burns.  When he walked into that waiting room, there sat Edith with her big black Bible in her lap earnestly talking to a young mother sitting beside her.  Edith Burns had a habit of introducing herself in this way: "Hello, my name is Edith Burns.  Do you believe in Easter?" Then she would explain the meaning of Easter, and many times people would be saved.  Dr. Phillips walked into that office and there he saw the head nurse, Beverly. Beverly had first met Edith when she was taking her blood pressure. Edith began by saying,"My name is Edith Burns. Do you believe in Easter?"  Beverly said, "Why yes I do."  Edith said, "Well, what do you ...

wash feet, sharing hope

John 13:4-5,14 NLT  So he got up from the table, took off his robe, wrapped a towel around his waist, 5 and poured water into a basin. Then he began to wash the disciples’ feet, drying them with the towel he had around him… 14 And since I, your Lord and Teacher, have washed your feet, you ought to wash each other’s feet. Jesus set the example we follow.  He served.  He valued and gave value to others.  That is why we choose to serve. For 18 years our church has shared an outreach called back2school, and for 16 of those years we have chosen to give students brand new shoes and socks as well as washing their feet.  It is one of the most important parts of this event. Washing feet is a humbling experience where both the give and the receiver learn how to share some moments that might change their lives.  Jesus said we should do this.  See the verse above.  Follow His example, do what He did, and give far more than you will ever know....
