God-ideas

No, the wisdom we speak of is the mystery of God—his plan that was previously hidden, even though he made it for our ultimate glory before the world began.

Bigger than any of our ideas or our thoughts or our wisdom are the mysteries of God.  He is able to do more than we can understand, and God is also able to take what we have that is confused or worthless and use it for greatness.  I don’t know about you, but I desire the greatness of God in and through my life and in the lives of the people around me.

I continue to be amazed by the things God is teaching me.  One of those places as of late is through Mark Batterson’s book The Circle Maker and more specifically through the prayer challenge book that goes along with it.  It is called Draw The Circle, and you ought to get a copy of this prayer challenge.

Here is a portion of I read last night:

At some point in our lives, the best we can do isn’t good enough.  Our best solutions, ideas, and efforts aren’t good enough.  That’s when we need to hit our knees and trust God to do what only God can do.  After all, prayer is the difference between the best you can do and the best God can do.  And that’s a big difference!

If we hit our knees, the Holy Spirit will do the heavy lifting.  If we hit our knees, the Holy Spirit will reveal things that can only be discovered in the presence of God.  If we hit our knees, the Holy Spirit will give us God-ideas for our ministry, family, business – for our lives…

Our biggest problem is our small view of God.  That is the cause of all lesser evils.  And a high view of God is the solution to all other problems.

Until we come to the conviction that God’s grace and God’s power have no limits, we will draw small prayer circles.  But once we embrace the omnipotence of God we’ll draw ever-enlarging circles around our God-given, God-sized dreams.

How big is your God?

Is He big enough to heal your marriage or heal your child?  Is He bigger than a positive MRI or a negative evaluation?  Is He bigger than your worst sin, greatest fear, or biggest dream?

If He is bigger than all of those things, then pray like it.

(Draw The Circle by Mark Batterson, pages 55-56)

Those are powerful words and truth that will change our lives.  It really changes our prayer lives and our trust in God.  So often we lean on the wrong things.  We often lean on our thoughts or our wisdom.  Often we lean on the wisdom of what we understand or what we can put our hands around.  But that is not the understanding that God wants to give us.  We must lean on Him and pray like it.

Pray like God is able to do more than you have ever seen before.  Pray like what you pray for is what God is going to do.  He will.  Believe God and let Him fill you with God-ideas.

Abraham never wavered in believing God’s promise. In fact, his faith grew stronger, and in this he brought glory to God.

wash feet, sharing hope

John 13:4-5,14 NLT  So he got up from the table, took off his robe, wrapped a towel around his waist, 5 and poured water into a basin. Then he began to wash the disciples’ feet, drying them with the towel he had around him… 14 And since I, your Lord and Teacher, have washed your feet, you ought to wash each other’s feet. Jesus set the example we follow.  He served.  He valued and gave value to others.  That is why we choose to serve. For 18 years our church has shared an outreach called back2school, and for 16 of those years we have chosen to give students brand new shoes and socks as well as washing their feet.  It is one of the most important parts of this event. Washing feet is a humbling experience where both the give and the receiver learn how to share some moments that might change their lives.  Jesus said we should do this.  See the verse above.  Follow His example, do what He did, and give far more than you will ever know....

Have you heard of EDITH BURNS?

Edith Burns was a wonderful Christian who lived in San Antonio, Texas . She was the patient of a doctor by the name of Will Phillips. Dr. Phillips was a gentle doctor who saw patients as people. His favorite patient was Edith Burns.  One morning he went to his office with a heavy heart and it was because of Edith Burns.  When he walked into that waiting room, there sat Edith with her big black Bible in her lap earnestly talking to a young mother sitting beside her.  Edith Burns had a habit of introducing herself in this way: "Hello, my name is Edith Burns.  Do you believe in Easter?" Then she would explain the meaning of Easter, and many times people would be saved.  Dr. Phillips walked into that office and there he saw the head nurse, Beverly. Beverly had first met Edith when she was taking her blood pressure. Edith began by saying,"My name is Edith Burns. Do you believe in Easter?"  Beverly said, "Why yes I do."  Edith said, "Well, what do you ...
