tune in to listen

Psalm 33:4  NLT
For the word of the Lord holds true, and we can trust everything he does.

You cannot hear well unless you tune in.  There are times that there is so much noise or some much noise coming from so many different places that you cannot hear, and you have to tune in so that you can hear.  That’s not easier either.

Often to be able to tune in to what you want to hear you have to tune out other things that are too loud or distracting.  Figure out what you what to hear or who you want to listen to.  That is the first step to hearing.  It is also the first step to allowing something more important happen in your life.

What is the loudest noise in your life?  Is it positive or negative?  Does that noise make you stronger or more confused?  There are so many things that we can tune in to.  In addition there are many people, many things and all kinds of stuff that is trying to get our attention.  All the time God, the one who first loved us, is speaking and wants our attention.  To hear God’s voice isn’t easy, but He desires to spend time with us.  What can we do to tune in to God?

Early the next morning the army of Judah went out into the wilderness of Tekoa. On the way Jehoshaphat stopped and said, “Listen to me, all you people of Judah and Jerusalem! Believe in the Lord your God, and you will be able to stand firm. Believe in his prophets, and you will succeed.”

One step is to believe that God is for you, and that what God will share with you is important.

Acts 8:6  NLT
Crowds listened intently to Philip because they were eager to hear his message and see the miraculous signs he did.

Answer this question: do you really want to hear from God?  What we really want we will pursue.  If we want to hear from God, we will pursue God and come to understand that God is pursuing us.

Remember what it says: “Today when you hear his voice, don’t harden your hearts as Israel did when they rebelled.”

What you hear might not be easy to hear.  God has your best in His heart.  Be open to hear what God says and respond.

Psalm 85:8  NLT
I listen carefully to what God the Lord is saying, for he speaks peace to his faithful people. But let them not return to their foolish ways.

When we believe that what God says is important and is best for us as we listen in to Him, we will experience peace and strength.  It will change our lives when we tune in to God and respond to what He says in the right way.

Just begin by tuning in to listen.  God is speaking.  Because we tune in to listen to God not only will our lives be changed, but others will have their lives transformed by God.

This same Good News that came to you is going out all over the world. It is bearing fruit everywhere by changing lives, just as it changed your lives from the day you first heard and understood the truth about God’s wonderful grace.

wash feet, sharing hope

John 13:4-5,14 NLT  So he got up from the table, took off his robe, wrapped a towel around his waist, 5 and poured water into a basin. Then he began to wash the disciples’ feet, drying them with the towel he had around him… 14 And since I, your Lord and Teacher, have washed your feet, you ought to wash each other’s feet. Jesus set the example we follow.  He served.  He valued and gave value to others.  That is why we choose to serve. For 18 years our church has shared an outreach called back2school, and for 16 of those years we have chosen to give students brand new shoes and socks as well as washing their feet.  It is one of the most important parts of this event. Washing feet is a humbling experience where both the give and the receiver learn how to share some moments that might change their lives.  Jesus said we should do this.  See the verse above.  Follow His example, do what He did, and give far more than you will ever know....

Have you heard of EDITH BURNS?

Edith Burns was a wonderful Christian who lived in San Antonio, Texas . She was the patient of a doctor by the name of Will Phillips. Dr. Phillips was a gentle doctor who saw patients as people. His favorite patient was Edith Burns.  One morning he went to his office with a heavy heart and it was because of Edith Burns.  When he walked into that waiting room, there sat Edith with her big black Bible in her lap earnestly talking to a young mother sitting beside her.  Edith Burns had a habit of introducing herself in this way: "Hello, my name is Edith Burns.  Do you believe in Easter?" Then she would explain the meaning of Easter, and many times people would be saved.  Dr. Phillips walked into that office and there he saw the head nurse, Beverly. Beverly had first met Edith when she was taking her blood pressure. Edith began by saying,"My name is Edith Burns. Do you believe in Easter?"  Beverly said, "Why yes I do."  Edith said, "Well, what do you ...
