leaning, learning & loving

The longer I know Him the more I see Him do things that I cannot explain and change lives.  God is at work all around us and all over the world, but our problem is often that we are not watching.  We are preoccupied with what we think is important or our own passions.  The entire time God wants to redirect our lives.

Redirecting our lives is a bit like what happens on a GPS as you use it to guide you to a specific place.  The voice says “recalculating”.  It simply means that no matter where you are the wisdom of the GPS will get you where you want to go.  Turn that toward God.  It is God’s desire to change us, to redirect us in the direction where we can be most useful and make the biggest impact for the kingdom of God.

Life is about God’s kingdom, and God wants to connect with us so that we connect with His best for the greatest growth of His kingdom.  There are three things that come to mind that will help us go God’s direction by redirecting our lives and our personal plans.

Proverbs 3:5  NASB
Trust in the Lord with all your heart and do not lean on your own understanding.

Daniel 6:23  NASB
Then the king was very pleased and gave orders for Daniel to be taken up out of the den.  So Daniel was taken up out of the den and no injury whatever was found on him, because he had trusted in his God.

As we lean on God we will go the right direction.  You can’t lean on someone you don’t trust.  By trusting God we will listen and lean in His direction that helps us gain momentum to be who God made us to be and to go where God wants us to go.

Matthew 11:29  NASB
Take My yoke upon you and learn from Me, for I am gentle and humble in heart, and you will find rest for your souls.

John 6:45  NASB
It is written in the prophets, ‘And they shall all be taught of God.’  Everyone who has heard and learned from the Father, comes to Me.

We are going to learn from someone.  Maybe you get your wisdom from books or movies or teachers or from peers.  We ought to be getting our wisdom from God.  To plug our lives into God and lean His direction we will learn.  By learning from God our lives will change or be modified so that we can be part of His plan.  Jesus listened to, leaned on and learned from the Father so that the biggest impact could happen.

1 John 3:23  NASB
This is His commandment, that we believe in the name of His Son Jesus Christ, and love one another, just as He commanded us.

1 Thessalonians 3:12  NASB
and may the Lord cause you to increase and abound in love for one another, and for all people, just as we also do for you;

When we lean on and learn from God, we will find ourselves loving people as Jesus loved people.  That is an unconditional love.  God’s love is marked by acceptance and healing.  That’s what I desire for my love to be characterized by.

It honestly grieves and hurts my heart and my feelings when people allow life to tear them a part.  As I listen to someone talk about their life and situation and they tell me about the pain they are going through, I find myself with the words to speak into their lives as to what they can become and how they can find strength in God.

Lean on God.  Learn from Him.  Love people like God loves them.  You will see God work and literally be part of a revolution that God creates around you.  It starts by leaning, learning & loving like God does!

Catalyst ticket arrived

My ticket to the Catalyst Conference, in Atlanta Oct 8-10, just arrived. I'm excited!

Have you heard of EDITH BURNS?

Edith Burns was a wonderful Christian who lived in San Antonio, Texas . She was the patient of a doctor by the name of Will Phillips. Dr. Phillips was a gentle doctor who saw patients as people. His favorite patient was Edith Burns.  One morning he went to his office with a heavy heart and it was because of Edith Burns.  When he walked into that waiting room, there sat Edith with her big black Bible in her lap earnestly talking to a young mother sitting beside her.  Edith Burns had a habit of introducing herself in this way: "Hello, my name is Edith Burns.  Do you believe in Easter?" Then she would explain the meaning of Easter, and many times people would be saved.  Dr. Phillips walked into that office and there he saw the head nurse, Beverly. Beverly had first met Edith when she was taking her blood pressure. Edith began by saying,"My name is Edith Burns. Do you believe in Easter?"  Beverly said, "Why yes I do."  Edith said, "Well, what do you ...

wash feet, sharing hope

John 13:4-5,14 NLT  So he got up from the table, took off his robe, wrapped a towel around his waist, 5 and poured water into a basin. Then he began to wash the disciples’ feet, drying them with the towel he had around him… 14 And since I, your Lord and Teacher, have washed your feet, you ought to wash each other’s feet. Jesus set the example we follow.  He served.  He valued and gave value to others.  That is why we choose to serve. For 18 years our church has shared an outreach called back2school, and for 16 of those years we have chosen to give students brand new shoes and socks as well as washing their feet.  It is one of the most important parts of this event. Washing feet is a humbling experience where both the give and the receiver learn how to share some moments that might change their lives.  Jesus said we should do this.  See the verse above.  Follow His example, do what He did, and give far more than you will ever know....
