what real wisdom looks like

James 1:5  NLT
If any of you needs wisdom to know what you should do, you should ask God, and he will give it to you. God is generous to everyone and doesn’t find fault with them.

Wisdom is not just what we might have in our head that helps us climb higher.  The world teaches us that wisdom has to do with how much education you have or how many books you read.

I believe that true wisdom comes from our connection to God.  He gives us talents and knowledge.  But how we apply that truth and how we seek our connection with God makes all the difference in the world.  There are many things that are true about godly wisdom.  My prayer is that we will be known by our wisdom that comes from God.

Job 9:4  NLT
God is wise in heart and mighty in power.  Who could oppose him and win?

Real wisdom acknowledges God and experiences His power.

Psalm 19:7  NLT
The teachings of the Lord are perfect.  They renew the soul.  The testimony of the Lord is dependable.  It makes gullible people wise.

Learning from God makes us wise.

a wise person will listen and continue to learn, and an understanding person will gain direction—

Wise people keep on listening and learning.

Do not consider yourself wise.  Fear the Lord, and turn away from evil.

Wisdom is connected to humility.  When you think you are wise, think again.

Sin is unavoidable when there is much talk, but whoever seals his lips is wise.

A wise person understands that keeping silent is often the wisest thing to do.

The teachings of a wise person are a fountain of life to turn one away from the grasp of death.

When a truly wise person speaks, others learn from the life they share and even keeps some people from death and more trouble.

Whoever walks with wise people will be wise, but whoever associates with fools will suffer.

Wise people spend time with wise people.

That is just a few of the truths of Scripture about wisdom.  As we connect ourselves to God our words and actions will line up with the Bible and with God.  We will also find ourselves pouring our lives and the wisdom God giving strength and life to others.  Real wisdom looks like what the Bible teaches.

wash feet, sharing hope

John 13:4-5,14 NLT  So he got up from the table, took off his robe, wrapped a towel around his waist, 5 and poured water into a basin. Then he began to wash the disciples’ feet, drying them with the towel he had around him… 14 And since I, your Lord and Teacher, have washed your feet, you ought to wash each other’s feet. Jesus set the example we follow.  He served.  He valued and gave value to others.  That is why we choose to serve. For 18 years our church has shared an outreach called back2school, and for 16 of those years we have chosen to give students brand new shoes and socks as well as washing their feet.  It is one of the most important parts of this event. Washing feet is a humbling experience where both the give and the receiver learn how to share some moments that might change their lives.  Jesus said we should do this.  See the verse above.  Follow His example, do what He did, and give far more than you will ever know....

Have you heard of EDITH BURNS?

Edith Burns was a wonderful Christian who lived in San Antonio, Texas . She was the patient of a doctor by the name of Will Phillips. Dr. Phillips was a gentle doctor who saw patients as people. His favorite patient was Edith Burns.  One morning he went to his office with a heavy heart and it was because of Edith Burns.  When he walked into that waiting room, there sat Edith with her big black Bible in her lap earnestly talking to a young mother sitting beside her.  Edith Burns had a habit of introducing herself in this way: "Hello, my name is Edith Burns.  Do you believe in Easter?" Then she would explain the meaning of Easter, and many times people would be saved.  Dr. Phillips walked into that office and there he saw the head nurse, Beverly. Beverly had first met Edith when she was taking her blood pressure. Edith began by saying,"My name is Edith Burns. Do you believe in Easter?"  Beverly said, "Why yes I do."  Edith said, "Well, what do you ...
