truth is...

Jesus’ baptism was a day to remember for those who followed Jesus.  It was also quite a day for John the Baptist.  This marked the beginning of Jesus’ public ministry.  Nothing would ever be the same.

But the truth was and is the same even to this day.  Literally truth is a person, and His name is Jesus.  Truth is what He came to share and to prove over and over and over again.  Truth is what holds us when everything else goes away.

Our lives have been changed by the grace of God.  Are we allowing God to revolutionize our lives on a daily basis?  It is a much like the church at Galatia that heard and received salvation.  But along the way they were deluded or tempted and had some issues.  Haven’t we?

You were running the race so well.  Who has held you back from following the truth?

Paul and others had poured into the lives of the people in the new church in Galatia.  There were some great days where people accepted God’s forgiveness and His grace, but along the way something distracted them.  Something got in their way of believing God and following Him too.

What keeps us from believing and following the truth?  What holds us back?  What trips us up?  Focusing on Jesus as our truth is the only thing that changes us forever and daily.

Psalm 43:3  NLT
Send out your light and your truth; let them guide me. Let them lead me to your holy mountain, to the place where you live.

Truth is somewhat like a light that keeps our path lit and clear.  When our path is cluttered, dim or dark is when we are overcome with problems and lies.  It is then that we have chosen not to follow the truth.

Get the truth and never sell it; also get wisdom, discipline, and good judgment.

Do we really want the truth of God to transform our lives and guide us?

The roots of a plant or tree say a lot about it’s strength.  That same thing can be said for humans.  Whatever our lives are rooted in will tell what we are about and how strong we are.  If our lives aren’t rooted in God and in His truth, we will end up having lots of trouble.  God’s desire for us is to be strong and able to deal with the stress and struggle of every day life.

It is a choice to root your life in the truth and in Jesus.  But making that choice and rooting our lives in Jesus will set us for a long time.  If we lie, we have to remember that lie and often tell other lies to cover the first, but if we tell the truth, the truth supports itself.  By rooting our life in God we supported on the truth of God.

Let your roots grow down into him, and let your lives be built on him. Then your faith will grow strong in the truth you were taught, and you will overflow with thankfulness.

Let the word of God make you strong.  The Bible contains truth and comes from the one who is truth.

The very essence of your words is truth; all your just regulations will stand forever.

May our lives see and know and share the truth of God with all who look on.  May we honor God by living in the truth.  God will honor those who honor Him.  He will strengthen those who honor and live by His truth.

3 John 1:4  NLT
I could have no greater joy than to hear that my children are following the truth.

Catalyst ticket arrived

My ticket to the Catalyst Conference, in Atlanta Oct 8-10, just arrived. I'm excited!

Have you heard of EDITH BURNS?

Edith Burns was a wonderful Christian who lived in San Antonio, Texas . She was the patient of a doctor by the name of Will Phillips. Dr. Phillips was a gentle doctor who saw patients as people. His favorite patient was Edith Burns.  One morning he went to his office with a heavy heart and it was because of Edith Burns.  When he walked into that waiting room, there sat Edith with her big black Bible in her lap earnestly talking to a young mother sitting beside her.  Edith Burns had a habit of introducing herself in this way: "Hello, my name is Edith Burns.  Do you believe in Easter?" Then she would explain the meaning of Easter, and many times people would be saved.  Dr. Phillips walked into that office and there he saw the head nurse, Beverly. Beverly had first met Edith when she was taking her blood pressure. Edith began by saying,"My name is Edith Burns. Do you believe in Easter?"  Beverly said, "Why yes I do."  Edith said, "Well, what do you ...

wash feet, sharing hope

John 13:4-5,14 NLT  So he got up from the table, took off his robe, wrapped a towel around his waist, 5 and poured water into a basin. Then he began to wash the disciples’ feet, drying them with the towel he had around him… 14 And since I, your Lord and Teacher, have washed your feet, you ought to wash each other’s feet. Jesus set the example we follow.  He served.  He valued and gave value to others.  That is why we choose to serve. For 18 years our church has shared an outreach called back2school, and for 16 of those years we have chosen to give students brand new shoes and socks as well as washing their feet.  It is one of the most important parts of this event. Washing feet is a humbling experience where both the give and the receiver learn how to share some moments that might change their lives.  Jesus said we should do this.  See the verse above.  Follow His example, do what He did, and give far more than you will ever know....
