share stories with our children

I was reading yesterday, and I cannot remember where I it was.  But the writer was talking about the fact that we share stories with our church about the lion’s den, men going through fire and walking on water.  We need to not only tell stories like those, but we must continue to live by faith. God has not changed.  Faith has not changed.  God continues to do miracles and to lead people to do things for His glory.  I have experienced people being healed, receiving miracles and going through situations they should not have made it through.  That is reality.  People in the days of the Bible and in our day believe and trust God.  We trust God, but are we attempting anything that only God can do?  Are we really living by faith? Hebrews 11:6   NLT And it is impossible to please God without faith. Anyone who wants to come to him must believe that God exists and that he rewards those who sincerely seek him. Acts 15:26   NLT who have risked their lives for the na

Lucy, I'm home

That phrase, “Lucy, I’m home,” is well known from the Lucille Ball show from decades ago as Desi Arnaz , her TV husband and husband in real life, would come into the scene and tell her he’s home.  Maybe you have never seen the show, but it is well known.  It is also my favorite part of the show. I sat Wednesday afternoon on the love seat in our living room receiving text from our middle child about the location my wife and children were in as they made their way home from Georgia.  Yes, we were only separated for a couple days, but I miss my family when we are not together.  They have my heart in big ways.  It was so cool when our two dogs and I opened the doors that all of us were excited to see each other! When I am home alone, there are some good things and some bad things.  I eat wrong when are a part (I do that at other times too, but worse at these times).  I enjoy sleeping stretched out across the bed (but I miss my wife too).  I could go on, but I wi

unstoppable commitment

Jesus made a huge commitment to people by living and dying for others and us.  Think about it.  He gave up comfort to take on our sin.  Jesus gave up peace to be beaten and nailed to a cross.  He stepped outside of the place people are safe to suffer in a harsh place for us.  That was a commitment no one can compete with. Hebrews 13:12 (NLT) So also Jesus suffered and died outside the city gates to make his people holy by means of his own blood.  What are we willing to do, how are we willing to suffer for the cause of Christ?  What will we do so other people can see and know Jesus?  Those are difficult questions.  Yet we learn from God how good He is and how much He loves us.  Here was a great thought God gave me this weekend: Hebrews 13:8 (NLT) Jesus Christ is the same yesterday, today, and forever. Go with me down this road for a minute.   Yesterday speaks about what God has already done.  He has forgiven our sins as well as taken our guil

are you prepared?

Psalm 56:3   NLT But when I am afraid, I will put my trust in you. We are not in control.  There are situations where it seems like we are in control, but we go through life trying to control the things that come our way.  Have you found this to be true? Often control is an issue that removes our faith in God and literally says “I can handle this”.  We try to manipulate situations and even people so that the outcome, attitudes and even relationships end up the way we want them too.  Yet I believe that God is calling His children, you and me, to be prepared for whatever situation comes our way.  Let me put this into perspective.  Last week there were uncontrollable storms in Oklahoma, and not one could control where they hit.  As I write this I am sitting by the best side of a dear friend who is battling cancer.  His health is neither in my control nor the doctor’s control.  There are many situations that are simply out of our control. Plenty of

continue to pray for Leon White

Monday, May 27, 2013, 6:30pm Dear Community Family - As I write you this email I am sitting next to Leon White at the Woltz Hospice Home in Dobson, NC.  Many of you know Leon and have known him for several years.  I ask that you continue to pray for him through his battle with cancer.  Pray for his family as well since they live so far away.   Write Leon a card in the next few days, and one of the workers at the hospice home will read it to him and place it in his room.  The address is Leon White, Woltz Hospice Home, 945 Zephyr Rd., Room 109, Dobson, NC 27017.  His room is large, and the home is very nice.  The staff here has been very good to Leon as they care for him. Sunday mornings are a special place and a special time for The Community Fellowship family, and they have been very special for Leon as well.  Leon would always be dressed in a Christian t-shirt and wearing one of his favorite hats.  Around his neck is his rope cross necklace, and in his mouth would be a too
