SERVING and SHINING

Matthew 5:16 (NASB)

Let your light shine before men in such a way that they may see your good works, and glorify your Father who is in heaven.

This is a great time to literally demonstrate the love of God to our community as we provide opportunities for our church family and friends to serve.  Please take a close look at what is coming this weekend and in the days to come.

2nd Saturday FREE Community Meal and Clothes Closet

It happens this Saturday from 9am until noon at the church.  Volunteers should arrive no later than 8:30am.  People are needed to help with clothes, food, children, check in and more.  We are also gathering more clothes for back2school and especially clothes for young boys.  Help us help more people!

WORKING on our new church campus

Each Saturday from 9am until 1pm there will be an opportunity for you to help prepare our new campus.  This Saturday Lee Hobbs and some other people will doing several things including cleaning, cutting brush and trees and more.  Bring chain saws, weed eaters, shovels, gloves and anything you would need to help with the process.  There are several things that need to be accomplished this weekend to keep us on a schedule.  (((HINT --- on Father's Day there will be a Sunday evening cookout on the back porch the new campus.  By the way, the back porch can hold more than 1,000 people.  More info to come)))  We will be working at the new campus every Saturday from 9am until 1pm.  Mark your calendar and come help!

SATURDAY evening feedings

At three locations across our community and a new locations opening next week we are helping people through serving a meal.  It all happens at 5pm.  You can sign up this coming Sunday.  But people are needed to provide food, money and volunteer help to make this happen.  Through this ministry called WE H.O.P.E. (we help other people eat) we are serving almost 200 people every week and seeing many of them come to church and to get to know Jesus.

SUNDAY worship and BIBLE STUDY

We continue to feel the presence of God and watch Him change lives as we serve and worship Him.  This Sunday is another opportunity to come together to worship God.  Bring friends and family with you at 10:10am as we continue our BLESS THIS HOME series and look through some of the difficult things family go through.  Sunday evening is another opportunity for Bible Study at 6pm.  It takes places on the back porch of our new campus.  You can also get a tour of the new camps before or after Bible study.

A Few Other Opportunities

We are just two months away from back2school 2013, and your help is needed to gather clothes, money and volunteers to help make this event a huge success.  Volunteers are needed now to help with preparation.  You can sign up this Sunday after morning worship.  See Michelle Kasey or contact the church office for more details.

Father's day is Sunday, June 16th, and we will have a special day with DUCK DYNASTY here at church.  Dress in camo.  Put on your beard.  Get ready for some fun.  If you have ever seen the TV show, you know we are about to experience something that will make you laugh and have lots of fun.  Join us Sunday, June 16th at 10:10am.

There will be a FATHER'S DAY COOK OUT on the back porch of our new campus Sunday evening, June 16th.  Listen for more details and get ready to enjoy some great family time together!

It is time for our Summer MISSION TRIP, and we are partnering with the SBCV's ACTS 1:8 family camp that is coming to Martinsville and Henry County.  There are opportunities for you to volunteer to serve our guests coming to town as we feed and serve them.  You can also serve during the week as their Bible School in the park, the afternoon mission projects and Thursday night community event at Jack Dalton Park.  All of this begins Sunday, June 23rd with dinner and worship here at the Community Fellowship at 6pm.  There will also be people working at our new campus each day.  Your help is needed.  See Kasim Adams for more details or contact the church office.

Pray for our YOUTH CAMP that is also the week of June 23rd.  Our students are excited about going to Ridgecrest, North Carolina for MISSIONfuge.  Be listening for more details, and be praying for these students.

That's Enough for Now

That's enough for now.  I want to thank all of our volunteers and church family who are "getting it done" as we serve our community each week.  God is equipping us to be able to serve more people in the coming days.  Contact myself, Donna or Cathy in the church office for more details about these opportunities or about all that is going on through the life of our church each week.  I look forward to seeing you this Sunday, and by the way, there will be a few surprises as we worship Jesus this weekend.  See you soon!  Thank you ahead of time for serving strong and for demonstrating the love of God to our community by letting your light shine through serving!

With GOD as my guide,

Pastor Michael

Catalyst ticket arrived

My ticket to the Catalyst Conference, in Atlanta Oct 8-10, just arrived. I'm excited!

Have you heard of EDITH BURNS?

Edith Burns was a wonderful Christian who lived in San Antonio, Texas . She was the patient of a doctor by the name of Will Phillips. Dr. Phillips was a gentle doctor who saw patients as people. His favorite patient was Edith Burns.  One morning he went to his office with a heavy heart and it was because of Edith Burns.  When he walked into that waiting room, there sat Edith with her big black Bible in her lap earnestly talking to a young mother sitting beside her.  Edith Burns had a habit of introducing herself in this way: "Hello, my name is Edith Burns.  Do you believe in Easter?" Then she would explain the meaning of Easter, and many times people would be saved.  Dr. Phillips walked into that office and there he saw the head nurse, Beverly. Beverly had first met Edith when she was taking her blood pressure. Edith began by saying,"My name is Edith Burns. Do you believe in Easter?"  Beverly said, "Why yes I do."  Edith said, "Well, what do you ...

wash feet, sharing hope

John 13:4-5,14 NLT  So he got up from the table, took off his robe, wrapped a towel around his waist, 5 and poured water into a basin. Then he began to wash the disciples’ feet, drying them with the towel he had around him… 14 And since I, your Lord and Teacher, have washed your feet, you ought to wash each other’s feet. Jesus set the example we follow.  He served.  He valued and gave value to others.  That is why we choose to serve. For 18 years our church has shared an outreach called back2school, and for 16 of those years we have chosen to give students brand new shoes and socks as well as washing their feet.  It is one of the most important parts of this event. Washing feet is a humbling experience where both the give and the receiver learn how to share some moments that might change their lives.  Jesus said we should do this.  See the verse above.  Follow His example, do what He did, and give far more than you will ever know....
