renewed by God's word

Our perception is our reality.  But our perception can also be wrong, very wrong.  What might have what you see, your perception, flawed, distorted and wrong?  There are many answers to that question.

When someone cannot see correctly, they might have an illness that affects their eyes, or this person might simply need glasses.  Another reason why someone’s seeing might be messed up is the place they are looking out of.  This is like looking at a beautiful mountain scene through a window that is dirty or fogged up.

We can also have poor spiritual perception.  Not being able to see spiritually is much like the problem of having problem with physical sight.  It might be the illness we know called sin, or there is sin and wrong in our lives that has not been dealt with.  Maybe someone cannot spiritually see because they are looking in the wrong place or not seeking where real spiritual insight comes from.  The fact is that all sight, including spiritual sight, comes from God.

"My thoughts are nothing like your thoughts," says the Lord. "And my ways are far beyond anything you could imagine.  For just as the heavens are higher than the earth, so my ways are higher than your ways and my thoughts higher than your thoughts.

Many people have convinced themselves that they are God or that they are like God.  Others have convinced themselves that they are super spiritual.  Both are wrong, very wrong.  Their seeing and thinking is flawed big time.  We cannot see as God sees.  We are human, weak and need God.  He will help our seeing if we let Him.

Ask yourself a question: am I allowing God to transform my mind?  That leads me to another question.  Is the way I love people really loving people and loving God?  Both questions are hard ones.  No easy answer and even pretty tough to hear.

And do not be conformed to this world, but be transformed by the renewing of your mind, so that you may prove what the will of God is, that which is good and acceptable and perfect.

Being honest is something that comes with getting right with God.  Being able to see is also something that comes with getting right with God.  Confess that your thinking and seeing is flawed.  Then walk in a different direction and let God change your seeing and your thinking.  No, it is not easy.  But it is right.

Being transformed and renewed is linked to the Bible being part of our lives.  As we read the Bible, interact with God and think about what God says we will be renewed.  The more we listen to people and let humanity supersede spiritual things the more trouble we will have, the less we will be able to see and the more messed up our lives will be.  Does that make sense?  Let God transform your life.  I need that as well.

I close today’s post by saying WOW.  This week is the fifth anniversary of the www.youversion.com Bible, and there have been over 100 million downloads of this Bible on mobile phones and portable devices.  That is flat out awesome.  God says that the Bible, His word, will transform our lives.  I have talked to many people who are getting their minds, hearts and lives wrapped up even more by using this incredible tool.  If you have a smart phone or portable device and are not using YouVersion, go to www.youversion.com and download it now.  It might change your life and the lives of other people you care about!

wash feet, sharing hope

John 13:4-5,14 NLT  So he got up from the table, took off his robe, wrapped a towel around his waist, 5 and poured water into a basin. Then he began to wash the disciples’ feet, drying them with the towel he had around him… 14 And since I, your Lord and Teacher, have washed your feet, you ought to wash each other’s feet. Jesus set the example we follow.  He served.  He valued and gave value to others.  That is why we choose to serve. For 18 years our church has shared an outreach called back2school, and for 16 of those years we have chosen to give students brand new shoes and socks as well as washing their feet.  It is one of the most important parts of this event. Washing feet is a humbling experience where both the give and the receiver learn how to share some moments that might change their lives.  Jesus said we should do this.  See the verse above.  Follow His example, do what He did, and give far more than you will ever know....

Have you heard of EDITH BURNS?

Edith Burns was a wonderful Christian who lived in San Antonio, Texas . She was the patient of a doctor by the name of Will Phillips. Dr. Phillips was a gentle doctor who saw patients as people. His favorite patient was Edith Burns.  One morning he went to his office with a heavy heart and it was because of Edith Burns.  When he walked into that waiting room, there sat Edith with her big black Bible in her lap earnestly talking to a young mother sitting beside her.  Edith Burns had a habit of introducing herself in this way: "Hello, my name is Edith Burns.  Do you believe in Easter?" Then she would explain the meaning of Easter, and many times people would be saved.  Dr. Phillips walked into that office and there he saw the head nurse, Beverly. Beverly had first met Edith when she was taking her blood pressure. Edith began by saying,"My name is Edith Burns. Do you believe in Easter?"  Beverly said, "Why yes I do."  Edith said, "Well, what do you ...
