serving students together

Psalm 34:3  NLT
Come, let us tell of the Lord’s greatness; let us exalt his name together.

Together we are stronger.  No better or sweeter place has this been proven than our back2school outreach that is in full swing right now.  As the map above shows there are six churches that have joined together to serve around 3,000 students this year.  By working together we are stronger and exalt the Lord’s name even more.

I am blown away by the people and the happenings of back2school.  For me there are many things to get done, many things to worry about or stress over, and there are many questions.  Yet when I take a step back and watch God work, I am so excited to see what God is doing without my help.  Last night I walked into two of our churches and was blessed to see the people interacting with students and preparing for a great event.  Some of these people worked with us last year, and some of these people are brand new.  This really is exciting.

Don’t be afraid, for I am with you.  Don’t be discouraged, for I am your God.  I will strengthen you and help you.  I will hold you up with my victorious right hand.

When something is new and we are not comfortable with it, we will be even more stressed and worry about things.  By watching and learning from others we are stronger.  By working together we can accomplish more and are stronger.  By leaning on the people around us we are stronger.  Simply put, we are stronger when we serve together, and back2school is proving the fact that serving students together makes us stronger, more passionate and spreads the name of Jesus even more.

The story of Nehemiah and the walls of Jerusalem begin rebuilt.  The book of Nehemiah in Bible illustrates what can happen when people work together.  They were struggling together, they fought enemies together and they worked together until the job was done.

So on October 2 the wall was finished—just fifty-two days after we had begun.

We aren’t talking about a short fence that was a few feet in length.  No we are talking about the walls of a strong, fortified city that were thick, tall and very long.  When these people caught the vision of what needed to be done, they saw victory and much got done.  As we work together we can accomplish so much more.

This is the sixth year of our back2school outreach, and it is sure to be the best and the biggest.  But what has sealed our success is not our resources or even willingness to serve.  Our success is sealed because six churches have come together to serve God by serving students and doing it together.  Serving students together is incredible.

Would you help us?  Adopt students for $20 each.  Donate kid’s sized socks or gently used kid’s clothes.  Volunteer and spend some time serving.  You can join our team of awesome people and great churches who are making Jesus famous by working together.  For more info or to help send me an email to info@thecommunityfellowship.org.

Have you heard of EDITH BURNS?

Edith Burns was a wonderful Christian who lived in San Antonio, Texas . She was the patient of a doctor by the name of Will Phillips. Dr. Phillips was a gentle doctor who saw patients as people. His favorite patient was Edith Burns.  One morning he went to his office with a heavy heart and it was because of Edith Burns.  When he walked into that waiting room, there sat Edith with her big black Bible in her lap earnestly talking to a young mother sitting beside her.  Edith Burns had a habit of introducing herself in this way: "Hello, my name is Edith Burns.  Do you believe in Easter?" Then she would explain the meaning of Easter, and many times people would be saved.  Dr. Phillips walked into that office and there he saw the head nurse, Beverly. Beverly had first met Edith when she was taking her blood pressure. Edith began by saying,"My name is Edith Burns. Do you believe in Easter?"  Beverly said, "Why yes I do."  Edith said, "Well, what do you ...

wash feet, sharing hope

John 13:4-5,14 NLT  So he got up from the table, took off his robe, wrapped a towel around his waist, 5 and poured water into a basin. Then he began to wash the disciples’ feet, drying them with the towel he had around him… 14 And since I, your Lord and Teacher, have washed your feet, you ought to wash each other’s feet. Jesus set the example we follow.  He served.  He valued and gave value to others.  That is why we choose to serve. For 18 years our church has shared an outreach called back2school, and for 16 of those years we have chosen to give students brand new shoes and socks as well as washing their feet.  It is one of the most important parts of this event. Washing feet is a humbling experience where both the give and the receiver learn how to share some moments that might change their lives.  Jesus said we should do this.  See the verse above.  Follow His example, do what He did, and give far more than you will ever know....
