back2school is here

Then he took the children in his arms and placed his hands on their heads and blessed them.

It is here.  back2school is happening tomorrow for some awesome students who need extra attention and on Saturday for lots of students.  This is our biggest outreach of the year, and this is also an how good God is and how much He loves people.  When churches work together, lives will be changed, the world will take notice and our enemy is defeated.  That is awesome!

I’d like to share with you the process that a student goes through as they are part of the back2school project:

REGISTRATION --- every student has to be registered a few weeks before the event which includes sharing their shoe size, age, school and family info.  This event will encourage the student’s entire family.  On the day of the event the student receives a lanyard with all the info that help them go through the process.  This year has something extra offered for those who are not registered.  Those students can come to The Community Fellowship at 1:30 on Saturday, and we will serve students as long as supplies last.

THE STORY --- some great storytellers will share the story of the Good Samaritan as well as the story of how Manny Ohomme came to know Jesus (Manny and his organization Samaritan’s Feet are some of our ministry partners).  It is a story of hope and how someone introduced him to Jesus.  Please pray for those who will hear the story that those who are lost will be saved and that those who are discouraged will be encouraged and find hope in God.

Because of our faith, Christ has brought us into this place of undeserved privilege where we now stand, and we confidently and joyfully look forward to sharing God’s glory.

HAIR CUTS --- students are offered a hair cut by some great volunteers who give them a new look and prepare them for school.  The smiles on the kid’s faces will melt your heart.

FOOT WASHING AREA --- each student will receive a brand new pair of shoes and socks.  Before the new shoes are put on each student’s feet, a volunteer will wash their feet and talk with them about their hopes and dreams.  We do this because of what the Bible teaches us in serving others.  What an incredible expression of God’s love washing feet is.  This makes a big difference in each child’s life.

CLOTHES CLOSET --- choosing school clothes can be lots of fun.  Students will be able to pick out a few items each.  These clothes have been donated.  Most of them are gently used but in great shape.

BACKPACKS and SCHOOL SUPPLIES --- right before leaving the building each student receives a bottle water and a brand new backpack with some school supplies inside.  We have found this is a great way to help parents who are in need and to encourage kids to begin a new school year with hope and strength.

Through the process these students are prayed over, prayed for and prayed with.  It is our belief that God has called us to serve the people He loves and win the right to talk with them about Jesus.  When we share God’s love and meet needs, we are doing what Jesus did while He was on earth.  There is no greater thing to do than to serve others.

We aren’t perfect.  We have lots to learn, but God has blessed our lives and given us a great opportunity to serve others through back2school.  Our prayer is that student’s lives will be changed through this event.  We are blessed to be helping more students than ever, in more places than ever and with more passion than ever to demonstrate the love of God to every person that comes our way.

Please help us serve these students.  Give.  Serve.  Pray.  More to come as we celebrate what God will do this weekend.  I can’t wait!!!

To the weak I became weak, that I might win the weak; I have become all things to all men, so that I may by all means save some.

Pray for these:
Pray for the back2school 2013 and all the students who will be served this weekend.

Catalyst ticket arrived

My ticket to the Catalyst Conference, in Atlanta Oct 8-10, just arrived. I'm excited!

Have you heard of EDITH BURNS?

Edith Burns was a wonderful Christian who lived in San Antonio, Texas . She was the patient of a doctor by the name of Will Phillips. Dr. Phillips was a gentle doctor who saw patients as people. His favorite patient was Edith Burns.  One morning he went to his office with a heavy heart and it was because of Edith Burns.  When he walked into that waiting room, there sat Edith with her big black Bible in her lap earnestly talking to a young mother sitting beside her.  Edith Burns had a habit of introducing herself in this way: "Hello, my name is Edith Burns.  Do you believe in Easter?" Then she would explain the meaning of Easter, and many times people would be saved.  Dr. Phillips walked into that office and there he saw the head nurse, Beverly. Beverly had first met Edith when she was taking her blood pressure. Edith began by saying,"My name is Edith Burns. Do you believe in Easter?"  Beverly said, "Why yes I do."  Edith said, "Well, what do you ...

wash feet, sharing hope

John 13:4-5,14 NLT  So he got up from the table, took off his robe, wrapped a towel around his waist, 5 and poured water into a basin. Then he began to wash the disciples’ feet, drying them with the towel he had around him… 14 And since I, your Lord and Teacher, have washed your feet, you ought to wash each other’s feet. Jesus set the example we follow.  He served.  He valued and gave value to others.  That is why we choose to serve. For 18 years our church has shared an outreach called back2school, and for 16 of those years we have chosen to give students brand new shoes and socks as well as washing their feet.  It is one of the most important parts of this event. Washing feet is a humbling experience where both the give and the receiver learn how to share some moments that might change their lives.  Jesus said we should do this.  See the verse above.  Follow His example, do what He did, and give far more than you will ever know....
