we will never forget

Where were you on Tuesday, September 11, 2001?  I remember where I was like it was yesterday.  Not all the events of the day stand out, but as soon as I heard what was going on I left the church office and went home to watch on the TV the events of the day unfolding.  That night there was a special meeting at church that was attended by many people.

For me as an American I saw this as an attack on our nation and on me.  Many lives were lost that days, and the key phrase for this post and for us to remember is “we will never forget”.  We won’t forget that fact that America is a gift from God.  We won’t forget those who those who wanted to hurt our country.  We won’t forget those who lost their lives that day: the airplane staff, the passengers, those in the tower, the first responders and more.  We will not forget the families whose lives were forever changed by the loss of a loved one that day.

What do you do when your world is turned upside down?  You may have been through a devastating time as such.  Many of us have not.

Proverbs 3:25  NASB
Do not be afraid of sudden fear Nor of the onslaught of the wicked when it comes;

Those are times to trust God.

1 Thessalonians 4:18  NASB
Therefore comfort one another with these words.

Times of crisis is when we need to comfort each other.

Psalm 62:8  NASB
Trust in Him at all times, O people; Pour out your heart before Him; God is a refuge for us. Selah.

September 11th and any crisis day is a time to trust God.  Every day trust God so that when tough times come you will continue to trust God.

May God help us remember and help us share with others that we are still blessed.  Yet in the middle of crisis God is at work in and through our lives.  That may be the time when someone is more apt to hear from and meet God.  Our lives and our faith as well as our respond to trouble will tell others of who God is in our lives.

We are blessed to be Americans, but our nation is also not centered on God has it has been in the past.  Pray for our nation and the world.

Psalm 33:12  NASB
Blessed is the nation whose God is the Lord, The people whom He has chosen for His own inheritance.

wash feet, sharing hope

John 13:4-5,14 NLT  So he got up from the table, took off his robe, wrapped a towel around his waist, 5 and poured water into a basin. Then he began to wash the disciples’ feet, drying them with the towel he had around him… 14 And since I, your Lord and Teacher, have washed your feet, you ought to wash each other’s feet. Jesus set the example we follow.  He served.  He valued and gave value to others.  That is why we choose to serve. For 18 years our church has shared an outreach called back2school, and for 16 of those years we have chosen to give students brand new shoes and socks as well as washing their feet.  It is one of the most important parts of this event. Washing feet is a humbling experience where both the give and the receiver learn how to share some moments that might change their lives.  Jesus said we should do this.  See the verse above.  Follow His example, do what He did, and give far more than you will ever know....

Have you heard of EDITH BURNS?

Edith Burns was a wonderful Christian who lived in San Antonio, Texas . She was the patient of a doctor by the name of Will Phillips. Dr. Phillips was a gentle doctor who saw patients as people. His favorite patient was Edith Burns.  One morning he went to his office with a heavy heart and it was because of Edith Burns.  When he walked into that waiting room, there sat Edith with her big black Bible in her lap earnestly talking to a young mother sitting beside her.  Edith Burns had a habit of introducing herself in this way: "Hello, my name is Edith Burns.  Do you believe in Easter?" Then she would explain the meaning of Easter, and many times people would be saved.  Dr. Phillips walked into that office and there he saw the head nurse, Beverly. Beverly had first met Edith when she was taking her blood pressure. Edith began by saying,"My name is Edith Burns. Do you believe in Easter?"  Beverly said, "Why yes I do."  Edith said, "Well, what do you ...
