be still, be creative

Yesterday I shared the benefits of sleep and rest that I found in an article from HEALTH.com.  It stated these results and benefits from rest: improved memory, longer life, better health, more creativity, improved ability, makes you sharper, less stress, fewer accidents, less depression, and closer to God.  I did add the last one.

A friend shared with me last night part of a devotion she read recently that talked about the need for us to spend time with God, our families, by ourselves and seeking to be creative and in thinking.  The devotion went on to say that when stress increased and when depression came into that writer’s life she had to make sure she is spending time in the right places.  That made lots of sense.

God time and time reflecting leads to being more creative and stronger.  I long for that.  Do you?  As the picture above says, most people don’t live up to their creative potential.  Don’t miss your time with God.  Don’t be less creative than God made you to be.

The idea of resting and time with God go hand in hand.  Here are a few of the verses that have been running through my mind about being more creative and being able to hear from God.

Rest in the Lord and wait patiently for Him; Do not fret because of him who prospers in his way, Because of the man who carries out wicked schemes.

That is also from yesterday, but this verse spoke volumes to me.  Waiting patiently for God is reflecting, is alone time and is vital to our lives.  Keep reading.

Therefore repent and return, so that your sins may be wiped away, in order that times of refreshing may come from the presence of the Lord;

Repenting is not always tied to dealing with major sin and making life-altering changes.  It may be small or simple adjustments to move closer to God.  Repenting leads to refreshing which come from quiet time or resting that way God calls us to rest.

Wait for the Lord; Be strong and let your heart take courage; Yes, wait for the Lord.

Real strength comes from God.  Waiting is important.  By stopping from the busy life we are part of we begin be see and hear God because of the rest we get.  It might begin with setting aside the things that hold us back.  Those things are burdens and issues that we haven’t fully given to God.

"Come to Me, all who are weary and heavy-laden, and I will give you rest. Take My yoke upon you and learn from Me, for I am gentle and humble in heart, and you will find rest for your souls. For My yoke is easy and My burden is light."

Take some time with God today.  Be still.

“Be still, and know that I am God!  I will be honored by every nation.  I will be honored throughout the world.”

Have you heard of EDITH BURNS?

Edith Burns was a wonderful Christian who lived in San Antonio, Texas . She was the patient of a doctor by the name of Will Phillips. Dr. Phillips was a gentle doctor who saw patients as people. His favorite patient was Edith Burns.  One morning he went to his office with a heavy heart and it was because of Edith Burns.  When he walked into that waiting room, there sat Edith with her big black Bible in her lap earnestly talking to a young mother sitting beside her.  Edith Burns had a habit of introducing herself in this way: "Hello, my name is Edith Burns.  Do you believe in Easter?" Then she would explain the meaning of Easter, and many times people would be saved.  Dr. Phillips walked into that office and there he saw the head nurse, Beverly. Beverly had first met Edith when she was taking her blood pressure. Edith began by saying,"My name is Edith Burns. Do you believe in Easter?"  Beverly said, "Why yes I do."  Edith said, "Well, what do you ...

wash feet, sharing hope

  John 13:4-5,14 NLT  So he got up from the table, took off his robe, wrapped a towel around his waist, 5 and poured water into a basin. Then he began to wash the disciples’ feet, drying them with the towel he had around him… 14 And since I, your Lord and Teacher, have washed your feet, you ought to wash each other’s feet. Jesus set the example we follow.  He served.  He valued and gave value to others.  That is why we choose to serve. For 18 years our church has shared an outreach called back2school, and for 16 of those years we have chosen to give students brand new shoes and socks as well as washing their feet.  It is one of the most important parts of this event. Washing feet is a humbling experience where both the give and the receiver learn how to share some moments that might change their lives.  Jesus said we should do this.  See the verse above.  Follow His example, do what He did, and give far more than you will ever know....
