As our
family gets quiet sitting in front of the television last night, we have a
guest with us. But my mind goes to one
of those places where it just won’t leave.
Our routine each night includes family devotions. We read a devotion and a passage from the
Bible before praying together.
The
devotional we use almost all the time comes from YouVersion
which allows you to read the Bible on your computer or your mobile device, and
it also offers plans that can include devotional readings. The devotion we are currently using is for
families with younger children. It is
about Bible heroes in the Old Testament.
Let me
backtrack for a minute. We recently got
rid of cable at our house and began using Internet TV mainly with the help of Netflix.
That requires us to use a device that connects to the Internet, and one
device we are using is AppleTV. Our family likes Apples. Not the fruit, but the technology such as Mac
computers, iPhones and an iPads. And one
of the cool new things we have found is called AirPlay which plays content from your
computer or mobile device on your TV. It
is cool.
Let me get
to the point. As we were doing our
family devotion we were able to watch a short video and read scripture together
as we watched it on our TV screen. It
helped us connect, talk about it and to read together. This is just one more way that as a family we
are seeking God. It really is
incredible.
I believe
that we must leverage what we have for the good of the Kingdom of God. All that we have and all the knowledge in the
world is derived from the creator of all who is our great and mighty God, and
it is also true that the enemy of the Christian is the fallen angel we know as
Satan. It is Satan’s job to pervert all
he can. Thus he takes these resources
and relationships and messes with them.
It is time to redeem these resources and relationships for the good of
God.
Use your
phone to encourage you and others.
Leverage the technology in your pocket by sending text messages to
friends of scripture or prayer or something encouraging. Download the Bible on your phone and chose a
reading plan that keeps you in the Bible each day. Use your computer to study the Bible through
all the tools that various websites and programs offer. Literally we can leverage technology to help
our faith grow.
We must also
leverage technology to share the Gospel with as many people as we can. Websites and social media such as FaceBook, Twitter
and Instagram can be used to help people
think about and come to know God.
Use what is
in your hand make God greater in your life and in the lives of the people you
influence. Leverage the technology you
have to meet God personally and to share God’s love with others!
And God will
generously provide all you need.
Then you will always have everything you need and plenty left over to share
with others.
To the weak I
became weak, that I might win
the weak; I have become all
things to all men, so that I may
by all means save some.
