I love
old buildings. When I went to school in New Orleans, I enjoyed visiting
the French Quarter and seeing the beauty of the old buildings that were so new
to me. Charleston is another place I enjoyed. After living in
Georgia for about a decade, I really enjoyed visiting Savannah and the
communities along the coast. My favorite was St. Simons Island, and my
favorite landmark was in a cemetery. You heard me right. It was
outside an old, old church. The sign and landmark told of how John Wesley
preached on that spot. I was stunned, convicted, impressed and ignited
all at the same time.
Landmarks
and historical markers are cool. We need to stop and read them.
Learn from them and be encouraged by them.
In fact,
have you noticed that God gives you landmarks or spiritual markers in your
life? Henry
Blackaby was the first to point this out in my life through his book
Experiencing God.
Blackaby
wrote, A spiritual marker "identifies a time of transition, decision, or
direction when I clearly know that God has guided me. I can look back at these
spiritual markers and see how God has faithfully directed my life according to
His divine purpose." (p.170)
Don't
miss them. In fact I have seen God work this week in some awesome ways
that are Spiritual Markers or Landmarks for me and for the church I am honored
to lead. God is at work...
Proverbs
22:28 (nasb)
Do not move the ancient boundary Which your fathers have set.
Psalm
46:10 (nlt)
"Be still, and know that I am God! I will be honored
by every nation. I will be honored throughout the world."
2
Chronicles 15:12 (nlt)
Then they entered into a covenant to seek the Lord, the God of
their ancestors, with all their heart and soul.
As we
think through our vision for life and ministry, we will find our old spiritual
markers and landmarks priceless, and the new markers will be enlightening and
the hand of God fresh and exciting. Be challenged to stop and seek the
Lord.
One
pastor commented that the way He often hears from God is to seek Him and not move
until God speaks. Pretty profound, I would say.
Don't miss
those spiritual markers, the landmarks that God has placed for you and He to
get on the same road to some pretty incredible places. We ain't seen
nothing yet!!!
