walking thru Scripture

We had a special guest at The Community Fellowship this weekend.  Sylvia Pearce is a good friend and shares the truth of how God has liberated us by giving us Jesus to forgive our sins and live through us (read more at her website http://theliberatingsecret.org).

During our Sunday community worship we read through Colossians 3, and as I went back to the chapter later in the day God began to work in me even more.  Take a few minutes to read through the verses below from Colossians 3, and I pray God will give you some stuff to chew on.

Think about the things of heaven, not the things of earth.
For you died to this life, and your real life is hidden with Christ in God…
10 Put on your new nature, and be renewed as you learn to know your Creator and become like him…
12 Since God chose you to be the holy people he loves, you must clothe yourselves with tenderhearted mercy, kindness, humility, gentleness, and patience.
13 Make allowance for each other’s faults, and forgive anyone who offends you.  Remember, the Lord forgave you, so you must forgive others.
14 Above all, clothe yourselves with love, which binds us all together in perfect harmony.
15 And let the peace that comes from Christ rule in your hearts.  For as members of one body you are called to live in peace.  And always be thankful…
21 Fathers, do not aggravate your children, or they will become discouraged.

Verse 2 is one of my favorite verses.  I quote it often and believe it too.

Jesus is our life.  His forgiveness is ours, and when we realize that Jesus gave His life for ours and that He will live through us, that is when we find success and strength.  That success is seen in how we live and how we treat others.

I desire the peace that only Christ can give.  He continues to change us.

In closing verse 21 rang in my mind most of the afternoon and evening yesterday so much so that our family used that verse in our family devotion.  I needed to confess that far too often I use the wrong the methods to get my kids to do what I want them to do.  Julie and I pray that our kids will love God and seek Him more every day.  It is my calling to love them as God loves them.  It is my heart is protect and guide them to the best and strongest life they could possibly have.

God gave His life for ours.  By allowing Him to live through us every part of life takes on the ability to go farther, to influence more, and to let others experience God.  Colossians 3 is awesome.  Let its truth roll around your heart and mind today.

wash feet, sharing hope

John 13:4-5,14 NLT  So he got up from the table, took off his robe, wrapped a towel around his waist, 5 and poured water into a basin. Then he began to wash the disciples’ feet, drying them with the towel he had around him… 14 And since I, your Lord and Teacher, have washed your feet, you ought to wash each other’s feet. Jesus set the example we follow.  He served.  He valued and gave value to others.  That is why we choose to serve. For 18 years our church has shared an outreach called back2school, and for 16 of those years we have chosen to give students brand new shoes and socks as well as washing their feet.  It is one of the most important parts of this event. Washing feet is a humbling experience where both the give and the receiver learn how to share some moments that might change their lives.  Jesus said we should do this.  See the verse above.  Follow His example, do what He did, and give far more than you will ever know....

Have you heard of EDITH BURNS?

Edith Burns was a wonderful Christian who lived in San Antonio, Texas . She was the patient of a doctor by the name of Will Phillips. Dr. Phillips was a gentle doctor who saw patients as people. His favorite patient was Edith Burns.  One morning he went to his office with a heavy heart and it was because of Edith Burns.  When he walked into that waiting room, there sat Edith with her big black Bible in her lap earnestly talking to a young mother sitting beside her.  Edith Burns had a habit of introducing herself in this way: "Hello, my name is Edith Burns.  Do you believe in Easter?" Then she would explain the meaning of Easter, and many times people would be saved.  Dr. Phillips walked into that office and there he saw the head nurse, Beverly. Beverly had first met Edith when she was taking her blood pressure. Edith began by saying,"My name is Edith Burns. Do you believe in Easter?"  Beverly said, "Why yes I do."  Edith said, "Well, what do you ...
