He is still God

1 John 4:8  NLT
But anyone who does not love does not know God, for God is love.

We stand at the threshold of new possibilities and of great opportunities as the New Year begins in a few hours.  2014 will offer each of us challenges, some heart attack and much love as we pursue the dreams that God had embedded into our hearts.  For that I am very excited.

But what takes my attention the most are some things that have not changed and will not change.  God loves me.  God loves you.  Nothing can change those two facts.  The verse above points clearly to the implications of God’s love on our lives.  If we love, we know God.  If we have trouble loving, our understanding and knowing God must be messed up.

The calendar changes tomorrow.  The opportunities change and present themselves in living color, but our God does not change.  I am thankful for the fact that I will understand more about God and His love for people than I have ever grasped before.

He is still God.  He is still changing lives.  He loves me, and that overwhelms me time and time again.

I am the Alpha and the Omega, the First and the Last, the Beginning and the End.

Recently my son asked me when God was born and how all that happened.  I didn’t tell Ryan that I know it all, but I did tell Him that we have to live by faith knowing that God always was and always will be.  He is the top of it all and knows all.

I am the Lord, and I do not change. That is why you descendants of Jacob are not already destroyed.

His love is strong and unchanging.  His promises do not have an end.  What God does and says will be what keeps us going when it seems that the world is crumbling around us.  Behind the words, behind the promises, stands the unchanging and always underestimated love that God has for me and for you.

So God has given both his promise and his oath. These two things are unchangeable because it is impossible for God to lie. Therefore, we who have fled to him for refuge can have great confidence as we hold to the hope that lies before us.

Notice the thought of unchangeable in that verse.  It is impossible for God to change.  By faith we have to hold on to that fact seeing that God Himself makes that the reality.  God doesn't second guess or play games with us.  He is our person and place of hope always.  That’s 24/7/365 and as far beyond as we can imagine.  Hear that word as well, imagine.  We cannot understand or comprehend all the greatness and limitlessness of our God.

Stand tall.  God loves you.  He is with you, and nothing will change that further than your trip to heaven when it is your time.  His love and His presence make this life much more sweet.  His love, His presence and our faith in Him will help 2014 be the most incredible year that we have ever had.  I cannot wait to see what God does.  This will be awesome.

Don’t be afraid, for I am with you. Don’t be discouraged, for I am your God. I will strengthen you and help you. I will hold you up with my victorious right hand.

He is still God!

Have you heard of EDITH BURNS?

Edith Burns was a wonderful Christian who lived in San Antonio, Texas . She was the patient of a doctor by the name of Will Phillips. Dr. Phillips was a gentle doctor who saw patients as people. His favorite patient was Edith Burns.  One morning he went to his office with a heavy heart and it was because of Edith Burns.  When he walked into that waiting room, there sat Edith with her big black Bible in her lap earnestly talking to a young mother sitting beside her.  Edith Burns had a habit of introducing herself in this way: "Hello, my name is Edith Burns.  Do you believe in Easter?" Then she would explain the meaning of Easter, and many times people would be saved.  Dr. Phillips walked into that office and there he saw the head nurse, Beverly. Beverly had first met Edith when she was taking her blood pressure. Edith began by saying,"My name is Edith Burns. Do you believe in Easter?"  Beverly said, "Why yes I do."  Edith said, "Well, what do you ...

wash feet, sharing hope

John 13:4-5,14 NLT  So he got up from the table, took off his robe, wrapped a towel around his waist, 5 and poured water into a basin. Then he began to wash the disciples’ feet, drying them with the towel he had around him… 14 And since I, your Lord and Teacher, have washed your feet, you ought to wash each other’s feet. Jesus set the example we follow.  He served.  He valued and gave value to others.  That is why we choose to serve. For 18 years our church has shared an outreach called back2school, and for 16 of those years we have chosen to give students brand new shoes and socks as well as washing their feet.  It is one of the most important parts of this event. Washing feet is a humbling experience where both the give and the receiver learn how to share some moments that might change their lives.  Jesus said we should do this.  See the verse above.  Follow His example, do what He did, and give far more than you will ever know....
