more truth, share it

Failure to apply truth to our lives helps us go the wrong direction.  You have experienced this before as I have.  It’s much like when you see the speed limit sign but ignore what it says.  Only you come to the to of a hill and see a policeman who for some reason turns on his blue lights.  The smart thing to do is to apply the truth that you learn.

To not apply truth to our spiritual lives is also something that will lead us in the wrong direction and bring consequences for us and the people around us.  What God says is truth.  Here are a few of the things God says are true about us:

This means that anyone who belongs to Christ has become a new person.  The old life is gone; a new life has begun!

We are new.  The past and sin is gone, forgiven and changed.  Our future is set, and heaven is our destination.  Jesus makes us new because of what He did and what we didn’t deserve.

God saved you by his grace when you believed.  And you can’t take credit for this; it is a gift from God.

Grace is the truth of God.  Grace is what we don’t deserve but receive from God.  Thus God gets all the credit for making us new and for salvation.  Why is it that we continue to lie or live a lay going back to our sin or feeling guilty because what we have done.  By accepting God’s truth means we are changed by grace and brand new.

My old self has been crucified with Christ.  It is no longer I who live, but Christ lives in me.  So I live in this earthly body by trusting in the Son of God, who loved me and gave himself for me.

Dead people can’t talk or do anything.  Our old self, our sinful nature is removed, and our new life has been given or raised by the amazing act that only God can do.  We live by His grace and by trusting solely in Him.  It is all because of the truth of His love.  He loves us, and there is nothing that can change that fact.

To apply truth means that we are convinced and we live like it and share it with others.  Yesterday in our series ALL IN we talked about being a prophet and telling truth to others.  It is when we apply truth and help others apply truth that we begin to live different.

Too often we are tearing people down because we have a low opinion of ourselves.  That low opinion comes because we don’t apply what God says about us.  Remember!  You are forgiven!  You are changed!  You are brand new!  You have possibilities, strength and truth to live by.  It is time we live like it and tell others.

But one who prophesies strengthens others, encourages them, and comforts them.

Telling others strengthens the people we tell.  Sharing the truth we believe encourages others to believe the truth.  Living by and speaking truth comforts the people around us because they see what God says in action.

My prayer is the I will be a parent that speaks truth in to the lives of my kids, as a pastor speak truth into the lives of the people I get to share with, and as a human share truth in every conversation and even in my choices and words that others see as they pass by.  The truth transforms our lives.

Live it.  Share it.  More to come…

wash feet, sharing hope

John 13:4-5,14 NLT  So he got up from the table, took off his robe, wrapped a towel around his waist, 5 and poured water into a basin. Then he began to wash the disciples’ feet, drying them with the towel he had around him… 14 And since I, your Lord and Teacher, have washed your feet, you ought to wash each other’s feet. Jesus set the example we follow.  He served.  He valued and gave value to others.  That is why we choose to serve. For 18 years our church has shared an outreach called back2school, and for 16 of those years we have chosen to give students brand new shoes and socks as well as washing their feet.  It is one of the most important parts of this event. Washing feet is a humbling experience where both the give and the receiver learn how to share some moments that might change their lives.  Jesus said we should do this.  See the verse above.  Follow His example, do what He did, and give far more than you will ever know....

Have you heard of EDITH BURNS?

Edith Burns was a wonderful Christian who lived in San Antonio, Texas . She was the patient of a doctor by the name of Will Phillips. Dr. Phillips was a gentle doctor who saw patients as people. His favorite patient was Edith Burns.  One morning he went to his office with a heavy heart and it was because of Edith Burns.  When he walked into that waiting room, there sat Edith with her big black Bible in her lap earnestly talking to a young mother sitting beside her.  Edith Burns had a habit of introducing herself in this way: "Hello, my name is Edith Burns.  Do you believe in Easter?" Then she would explain the meaning of Easter, and many times people would be saved.  Dr. Phillips walked into that office and there he saw the head nurse, Beverly. Beverly had first met Edith when she was taking her blood pressure. Edith began by saying,"My name is Edith Burns. Do you believe in Easter?"  Beverly said, "Why yes I do."  Edith said, "Well, what do you ...
