God's Not Dead

Some of my family had the privilege of seeing the new movie God’s Not Dead last evening.  It was a great story, well done and worth going to see.  Consider that a nudge or a recommendation if you need it.

The storyline is of a college student challenged by a professor to prove that God exists.  I have said many times over the years that we need to know what we believe about our faith and about God.  That does not mean you have to become a scholar or a genius.  It does mean that we should be able to give a reason for following Jesus and believing in God.

1 Peter 3:15  NASB
but sanctify Christ as Lord in your hearts, always being ready to make a defense to everyone who asks you to give an account for the hope that is in you, yet with gentleness and reverence;

God changed my life and continues to change my life, my family and those I get to share life with.  Last night our church leaders spend some time talking about how we can help others grow in their faith and share with others.  Our conclusion is that excitement and joy breeds more passion and joy.  In other words, when people see our lives shine for Jesus, they will want the same.

Every day we have opportunities to make a huge difference in the lives of others.

Opportunities to let God speak into our lives…

Opportunities to allow God to work through our lives…

Opportunities to serve others in Jesus’ name…

Opportunities to share our faith with anyone we can…

In the movie God’s Not Dead this one college freshman had an impact one many lives, some directly and some in indirectly.  The same is true for us.  There are people who come across our path and even sit across the table with us that we can influence by letting our faith shine.  Yet throughout the day there are people who watch us that we are influencing too.  We may never know some of them, but the influence is still very real.

I pray that our lives make a bigger difference than we have ever thought possible.  But that can only happen when we choose God above all else.  My desire is not to be the proverbial “flash in the pan” but instead to be a tsunami of blessing on the people that God puts in our lives.
Everyone who acknowledges me publicly here on earth, I will also acknowledge before my Father in heaven.  But everyone who denies me here on earth, I will also deny before my Father in heaven.

The fact that God is with us and will speak through us makes it so much easier to stand up and speak, but it may be helpful to realize you don’t have to preach from a pulpit or teach from a lectern to share what you believe about Jesus.  The best lessons we teach are taught in the conversations we have with others.  Our lives are a living testimony that God’s not dead as we live for Him.

Go see the movie God’s Not Dead and look for opportunities today to share your faith!

Have you heard of EDITH BURNS?

Edith Burns was a wonderful Christian who lived in San Antonio, Texas . She was the patient of a doctor by the name of Will Phillips. Dr. Phillips was a gentle doctor who saw patients as people. His favorite patient was Edith Burns.  One morning he went to his office with a heavy heart and it was because of Edith Burns.  When he walked into that waiting room, there sat Edith with her big black Bible in her lap earnestly talking to a young mother sitting beside her.  Edith Burns had a habit of introducing herself in this way: "Hello, my name is Edith Burns.  Do you believe in Easter?" Then she would explain the meaning of Easter, and many times people would be saved.  Dr. Phillips walked into that office and there he saw the head nurse, Beverly. Beverly had first met Edith when she was taking her blood pressure. Edith began by saying,"My name is Edith Burns. Do you believe in Easter?"  Beverly said, "Why yes I do."  Edith said, "Well, what do you ...

wash feet, sharing hope

  John 13:4-5,14 NLT  So he got up from the table, took off his robe, wrapped a towel around his waist, 5 and poured water into a basin. Then he began to wash the disciples’ feet, drying them with the towel he had around him… 14 And since I, your Lord and Teacher, have washed your feet, you ought to wash each other’s feet. Jesus set the example we follow.  He served.  He valued and gave value to others.  That is why we choose to serve. For 18 years our church has shared an outreach called back2school, and for 16 of those years we have chosen to give students brand new shoes and socks as well as washing their feet.  It is one of the most important parts of this event. Washing feet is a humbling experience where both the give and the receiver learn how to share some moments that might change their lives.  Jesus said we should do this.  See the verse above.  Follow His example, do what He did, and give far more than you will ever know....
