helping people is one thing we do well

Hey Community family ---

Serving others is one of the things that we do best. Your help is needed as we serve those who need clothes and those who are hungry.

The FEEDING CENTRAL VIRGINIA event is tomorrow morning, Saturday, April 12th. We will meet at The Community at 7:20 so we can travel to Roanoke. We should be done and headed back to town shortly after noon. We will be bringing lots of food back to Martinsville and Henry County. If you have signed up to go or want to help, join us. If you have questions, see Steve or Tina Stone or myself.

Tomorrow, April 12th, is also our 2nd Saturday FREE Community Meal and Clothes Closet from 9am until noon. Volunteers need to arrive at 8:30am. There is need for extra volunteers because of the fact of two events happening at the same time. Pass the word. Come out and help!

It is time to gear up for back2school 2014 and your help is needed to make this stronger than ever. Again we will have 6 churches across our region serving thousands of kids. Our Nicaragua Mission Team is getting ready for our trip in September. Raffle Tickets, mission feet and tickets to our Applebee's breakfast will be on sale this coming Sunday after worship. You can also see any of our team members to help!

We are one month away from our Mother's Day Car Care Clinic which takes place the day before Mother's Day. We need workers, prizes, mechanics, massage therapists and more. Put it on your calendar and listen for more details.

This Sunday we finish our COME TOGETHER series during our Community Worship Service as 10:10am. It is our desire to have more of our church family involved in serving the people of our area. God has much in store for us plus there will be a great surprise.

Next Sunday is EASTER, and you don't want to miss this exciting day we celebrate Jesus' life. Invite people to come to church with you on Easter. This is the day that more people will say yes to your invitation. We will begin a new series called BROKEN.

This Sunday we will have a special time of prayer for our new campus as well as some information that will help us as a church family prepare for the future and to be stronger. We look forward to seeing you this Saturday and Sunday as we demonstrate the love of God to our community and beyond.

Catalyst ticket arrived

My ticket to the Catalyst Conference, in Atlanta Oct 8-10, just arrived. I'm excited!

Have you heard of EDITH BURNS?

Edith Burns was a wonderful Christian who lived in San Antonio, Texas . She was the patient of a doctor by the name of Will Phillips. Dr. Phillips was a gentle doctor who saw patients as people. His favorite patient was Edith Burns.  One morning he went to his office with a heavy heart and it was because of Edith Burns.  When he walked into that waiting room, there sat Edith with her big black Bible in her lap earnestly talking to a young mother sitting beside her.  Edith Burns had a habit of introducing herself in this way: "Hello, my name is Edith Burns.  Do you believe in Easter?" Then she would explain the meaning of Easter, and many times people would be saved.  Dr. Phillips walked into that office and there he saw the head nurse, Beverly. Beverly had first met Edith when she was taking her blood pressure. Edith began by saying,"My name is Edith Burns. Do you believe in Easter?"  Beverly said, "Why yes I do."  Edith said, "Well, what do you ...

wash feet, sharing hope

John 13:4-5,14 NLT  So he got up from the table, took off his robe, wrapped a towel around his waist, 5 and poured water into a basin. Then he began to wash the disciples’ feet, drying them with the towel he had around him… 14 And since I, your Lord and Teacher, have washed your feet, you ought to wash each other’s feet. Jesus set the example we follow.  He served.  He valued and gave value to others.  That is why we choose to serve. For 18 years our church has shared an outreach called back2school, and for 16 of those years we have chosen to give students brand new shoes and socks as well as washing their feet.  It is one of the most important parts of this event. Washing feet is a humbling experience where both the give and the receiver learn how to share some moments that might change their lives.  Jesus said we should do this.  See the verse above.  Follow His example, do what He did, and give far more than you will ever know....
