do what you can

If someone has enough money to live well and sees a brother or sister in need but shows no compassion—how can God’s love be in that person?

That is a tough verse especially when the people around us, and maybe even some of us, have the gift of giving excuses.  I am too busy.  I don’t have enough money.  I don’t understand.  They have issues.  I am not like them.

Seeing people in need ought to make us have a heart of compassion that finds ways to serve others.  One of the things we have the ability to do is be part of the ministries in our area and at our church.  It is such an honor to work with a great group of people at The Community Fellowship that love to serve.

With back2school ahead of us this week, there is a place for everyone to serve.  There are also things that you can provide that will make the event that much better.  Find a place to serve here or somewhere.

God has given each of you a gift from his great variety of spiritual gifts.  Use them well to serve one another.

You are gifted.  Yes, you have spiritual gifts that only God can give you to serve other people.  We have also been given resources and blessings to share with other people.  Those blessings can be any thing from money, to possessions, to our time in serving.  It is what that we choice to do with what we have that makes a difference.

Do what you can.  Don’t miss the opportunity.  As it relates to this year’s back2school outreach event you can…

VOLUNTEER at Friday’s special needs day or on Saturday in the big event (volunteer training is Thursday at 7pm at The Community Fellowship).

HELP PACK BACKPACKS tonight (Tuesday) at our new campus tonight at 6pm.

DONATE SHOES as we still need boy’s shoes sizes 1 to 4.  If you will help with this, please email info@goback2school.info.

SHARE DESSERTS and LARGE COOLERS to help our volunteers on Saturday.  To help please contact Gordon at 276-732-7626 or bkhodges1964@gmail.com.

We also pray that you will be strengthened with all his glorious power so you will have all the endurance and patience you need.  May you be filled with joy,

Thank you, ahead of time, to all who will be helping with our outreach.  Thank you, in big ways, to the other churches and church leaders involved.  Over 2,000 students will be served and will hear about hope in Jesus.

Do what you can to help!  Pray for all involved.  Let’s see what God is about to do, and I know it will be better than any of the 7 years before!

Have you heard of EDITH BURNS?

Edith Burns was a wonderful Christian who lived in San Antonio, Texas . She was the patient of a doctor by the name of Will Phillips. Dr. Phillips was a gentle doctor who saw patients as people. His favorite patient was Edith Burns.  One morning he went to his office with a heavy heart and it was because of Edith Burns.  When he walked into that waiting room, there sat Edith with her big black Bible in her lap earnestly talking to a young mother sitting beside her.  Edith Burns had a habit of introducing herself in this way: "Hello, my name is Edith Burns.  Do you believe in Easter?" Then she would explain the meaning of Easter, and many times people would be saved.  Dr. Phillips walked into that office and there he saw the head nurse, Beverly. Beverly had first met Edith when she was taking her blood pressure. Edith began by saying,"My name is Edith Burns. Do you believe in Easter?"  Beverly said, "Why yes I do."  Edith said, "Well, what do you ...

wash feet, sharing hope

John 13:4-5,14 NLT  So he got up from the table, took off his robe, wrapped a towel around his waist, 5 and poured water into a basin. Then he began to wash the disciples’ feet, drying them with the towel he had around him… 14 And since I, your Lord and Teacher, have washed your feet, you ought to wash each other’s feet. Jesus set the example we follow.  He served.  He valued and gave value to others.  That is why we choose to serve. For 18 years our church has shared an outreach called back2school, and for 16 of those years we have chosen to give students brand new shoes and socks as well as washing their feet.  It is one of the most important parts of this event. Washing feet is a humbling experience where both the give and the receiver learn how to share some moments that might change their lives.  Jesus said we should do this.  See the verse above.  Follow His example, do what He did, and give far more than you will ever know....
