I love these people

The back2school outreach event for 2014 is 10 days away, and it is consuming my time, energy and my heart.  This is one of the greatest things that our church and our partners get to be part.  I am so excited about the students and families that we are get to serve through this event.

As I looked around the gym of our new campus today there were about 40 people from all 5 of our partner churches working together to gather the school supplies we will share.  Looking a little further I saw other partners like local stores, other churches, a school system, friends and other agencies.  Really blew me away, but this is only the beginning.

Our group is about to experience even more as we prepare to serve and serve students.  Please join us all in praying for more students to register tonight (it takes place at all 5 churches from 6 to 8pm tonight).

Working together makes all of us stronger.  We are able to accomplish more together than we could by ourselves.

Then the glory of the Lord will be revealed, and all people will see it together.  The Lord has spoken!

By working together God’s will get the glory, and people will see God.  That is the most important thing.  He will be revealed because of the unity that comes when churches come together not to fight or to serve ourselves but to serve people all around our community.

For where two or three gather together as my followers, I am there among them.

When we come together, we are not alone.  God is all over the place.  In fact prayers are being answered already.  Prayers like people being saved.  That happened today.  Prayers like enough supplies and shoes to share.  That is still happening.  Prayers like new partners and people interested in helping.  That keeps on happening, and I love to tell the story about what God is doing.

Psalm 34:3  NLT
Come, let us tell of the Lord’s greatness; let us exalt his name together.

God is great.  One thing I love to see and hear is when our leaders step up to serve and come up with great ideas and solutions.  I am seeing that almost every day as well.  I am reminded that alone is not the place God called me to work.  His greatness is seen and experienced when we chose to work together.

I love these people.  From our partner churches some are Baptist and some are Pentecostal.  It takes all of us to make it happen.  I love these people that recently came to our church that have stepped up and are spending their time and energy to make this a great event.  I love these people like the peeps who help every year and make it all happen.

This is our 7th year, and it is going to be awesome.  Be reminded that it is by the call of God and His grace that we come together to do great things and see God do amazing things.  I love God, and I love these people!

Acts 2:46  NLT
They worshiped together at the Temple each day, met in homes for the Lord’s Supper, and shared their meals with great joy and generosity—

wash feet, sharing hope

John 13:4-5,14 NLT  So he got up from the table, took off his robe, wrapped a towel around his waist, 5 and poured water into a basin. Then he began to wash the disciples’ feet, drying them with the towel he had around him… 14 And since I, your Lord and Teacher, have washed your feet, you ought to wash each other’s feet. Jesus set the example we follow.  He served.  He valued and gave value to others.  That is why we choose to serve. For 18 years our church has shared an outreach called back2school, and for 16 of those years we have chosen to give students brand new shoes and socks as well as washing their feet.  It is one of the most important parts of this event. Washing feet is a humbling experience where both the give and the receiver learn how to share some moments that might change their lives.  Jesus said we should do this.  See the verse above.  Follow His example, do what He did, and give far more than you will ever know....

Have you heard of EDITH BURNS?

Edith Burns was a wonderful Christian who lived in San Antonio, Texas . She was the patient of a doctor by the name of Will Phillips. Dr. Phillips was a gentle doctor who saw patients as people. His favorite patient was Edith Burns.  One morning he went to his office with a heavy heart and it was because of Edith Burns.  When he walked into that waiting room, there sat Edith with her big black Bible in her lap earnestly talking to a young mother sitting beside her.  Edith Burns had a habit of introducing herself in this way: "Hello, my name is Edith Burns.  Do you believe in Easter?" Then she would explain the meaning of Easter, and many times people would be saved.  Dr. Phillips walked into that office and there he saw the head nurse, Beverly. Beverly had first met Edith when she was taking her blood pressure. Edith began by saying,"My name is Edith Burns. Do you believe in Easter?"  Beverly said, "Why yes I do."  Edith said, "Well, what do you ...
