volunteers of the week DANNY and KATHY WILSON

This week’s volunteer of the week at The Community Fellowship is Danny and Kathy Wilson!!!

Danny and Kathy Wilson live in the Brosville area and have been part of The Community Fellowship family for a year.

During the week they often volunteer at the church and have helped with unloading donations, greeting our visitors, sorting and numbering Christmas gifts for foster children in our community and providing much appreciated support to staff members.

Danny provides security at the church and has been a vital help during our B2S (back2school) event where children hear about Christ and have their feet washed by one of our volunteer team members and receive new shoes, socks, book bags, haircuts and clothes each fall to begin the new school year.

Kathy is our “fill in” Receptionist when needed and was a tremendous help during the church Yard Sale in July, the annual Blood Drive and at our Mother’s Day Car Care Clinic.  She also sorted school supplies at the New Campus and was on hand to help during B2S in August.

Danny and Kathy were involved in an Outreach Ministry in Danville for many years, and their desire to reach out to others has been rekindled in their hearts through the ministries they have seen and been part of at The Community Fellowship.   They share the vision of our church to minister directly to the needs people have and literally be the” hands and feet of Jesus”.  Kathy said, “We were invited to TCF by our friend Karen Orr, and we love the people, the Leadership Team, the Staff, Pastor Michael and his family!”

In their spare time they love to attend car shows in Pigeon Forge and Gospel Concerts at Dollywood.  They enjoy traveling back roads in that area of Tennessee and enjoy the beauty of the seasons in those beautiful mountains.  They also like “do it yourself” projects and are currently remodeling a house in Gatlinburg, TN that they are hopeful to soon complete and then “hang up their nail aprons, never to pick them up again!”

When asked about the future they expressed, “We are grateful to be part of the Ministry and are looking forward to what God will be doing through The Community Fellowship at the New Campus.   We expect 2015 to be a great year for this ministry and we hope to be a vital part of it!”

Danny’s favorite Scripture is John 3:16, “For this is how God loved the world: He gave His one and only Son, so that everyone who believes in him will not perish but have eternal life.”  Danny loves to add emphasis to the verses before and after this verse because they add so much to this well-known verse.

Kathy’s favorite Scripture is Psalm 84:11-12, “For the Lord God is a sun and shield: The Lord will give grace and glory; No good thing will HE withhold From those who walk uprightly.  O Lord of hosts, Blessed is the man who trusts in YOU!”

We are indeed blessed by this dear couple, and we are excited to celebrate Danny and Kathy Wilson as our Community Fellowship Volunteers of the Week!  Thank you both for continually showing the love of Jesus to our community!

Have you heard of EDITH BURNS?

Edith Burns was a wonderful Christian who lived in San Antonio, Texas . She was the patient of a doctor by the name of Will Phillips. Dr. Phillips was a gentle doctor who saw patients as people. His favorite patient was Edith Burns.  One morning he went to his office with a heavy heart and it was because of Edith Burns.  When he walked into that waiting room, there sat Edith with her big black Bible in her lap earnestly talking to a young mother sitting beside her.  Edith Burns had a habit of introducing herself in this way: "Hello, my name is Edith Burns.  Do you believe in Easter?" Then she would explain the meaning of Easter, and many times people would be saved.  Dr. Phillips walked into that office and there he saw the head nurse, Beverly. Beverly had first met Edith when she was taking her blood pressure. Edith began by saying,"My name is Edith Burns. Do you believe in Easter?"  Beverly said, "Why yes I do."  Edith said, "Well, what do you

why is it Good Friday?

Holy Week is the time we focus on God and His gift of salvation.  We come to Friday.  The day we remember the cross, Jesus’ death and all God has done for you and me   Why do they call this day “Good Friday” because it doesn’t seems good?   Jesus was treated as a criminal.  He was beaten so much that He could not recognize Him.  His pain would have been too much for you or me to endure.  That is especially from Scripture I’ve read or as in the movie the  Passion of the Christ .   Yet it is a good day.  It is Good Friday because God had our good in His heart.  What Jesus did that day changed our forever direction. Here are some thoughts that come to me:   He is Redemption and Redeemer   He too our Pain and Punishment   He is our Righteousness and Reality   He is the Savior and Life   All of those happened from the cross.  It was meant for the worst lawbreakers.  It was not meant for a Savior who never broke a law.  It was lifted high so that onlookers could see the price Jesus.   Look

Day 8 in Cuba

We have just come off and incredible weekend, and it is day 8 of the mission trip in Cuba.  Thank you to all who have been praying for this trip, the mission team and the impact it will have on those we serve.   Please don’t stop praying. Last week Alex and I served with a mission team in the mountains of southern Cuba.  There were several challenges, but God gave us safety, provision and opportunity to serve some of the sweetest people I have ever met.  No running water… sporadic electricity generated by a small, logo dammed up river, no transportation other than animals, limited food sources and more.  These people love the Lord and sharing their faith with others. Over the weekend we made our way back to Havana.  On Friday our vehicle broke down leaving us on the side of the road for several hours.  We then boarded a bus and rode 14 hours.  We arrived safely and even got some rest. Sunday was so, so good.  We visited two partner churches.  In the morning we were with one church that
