at the right time

So let’s not get tired of doing what is good. At just the right time we will reap a harvest of blessing if we don’t give up.

This verse caught my attention early this week as I was reading and preparing for an upcoming sermon.  God uses His word, the Bible, often to speak to my heart, to deal with certain situations and to transform me to be more like Jesus.

Let’s take the verse in pieces and ask God to help us become more like Jesus.

Keep on doing what it good.

Now, who specifies what good?  Of coarse we put our stock in God being the one who defines good.  The things that God would qualify would be what makes a difference in the world and grows His kingdom.  We are also not to quit.  Keep on doing good.  Stay strong and even get stronger doing what is good.

The reason to do good is not to feel good.  The reason to keep on doing good is to be who God made you to be.  That is a person who understands we were created to love God and love others by serving and sharing Jesus.

Dear friend, don’t let this bad example influence you. Follow only what is good. Remember that those who do good prove that they are God’s children, and those who do evil prove that they do not know God.

At the right time God responded.

The right time is again defined by God.  He knows better than anyone else what needs to happen and how to make our lives count for even more than we have thought possible.  Time is an issue or opportunity that makes me stop and think a lot about what I trust and lean on.

Not only does God know best, but God is going to show up when I need Him most.  The best part of this is that at the right time God works in me and for others.  It is like a spider web that puts all things together for great outcomes that gives Him the more glory, and God continues to change us and make our world a much better and stronger place!

And this same God who takes care of me will supply all your needs from his glorious riches, which have been given to us in Christ Jesus.

A harvest of blessing is coming!

Years ago I accompanied some friends to their family farm several hours from our home.  Their farm was in a part of Oklahoma that was pretty flat, and they farmed several thousand acres.  As far as you could see was their land to tend.  I got to drive ATV’s and even big tractors.  To this day I can only imagine what it must have been like at harvest time.  That is when all the tractors and farm hands and even neighbors came together to bring in the harvest.

It was at the right time that the harvest would come in.  God knows the time, and God will bring a harvest of blessings.  And we need God.  I desire His blessings like you do.  I cannot wait to see His blessings spread wider and better than I have ever seen before.

The harvest is coming at the right, and that is why we must keep on doing good no matter what happens.

Romans 7:4  NLT
So, my dear brothers and sisters, this is the point: You died to the power of the law when you died with Christ. And now you are united with the one who was raised from the dead. As a result, we can produce a harvest of good deeds for God.

Catalyst ticket arrived

My ticket to the Catalyst Conference, in Atlanta Oct 8-10, just arrived. I'm excited!

Have you heard of EDITH BURNS?

Edith Burns was a wonderful Christian who lived in San Antonio, Texas . She was the patient of a doctor by the name of Will Phillips. Dr. Phillips was a gentle doctor who saw patients as people. His favorite patient was Edith Burns.  One morning he went to his office with a heavy heart and it was because of Edith Burns.  When he walked into that waiting room, there sat Edith with her big black Bible in her lap earnestly talking to a young mother sitting beside her.  Edith Burns had a habit of introducing herself in this way: "Hello, my name is Edith Burns.  Do you believe in Easter?" Then she would explain the meaning of Easter, and many times people would be saved.  Dr. Phillips walked into that office and there he saw the head nurse, Beverly. Beverly had first met Edith when she was taking her blood pressure. Edith began by saying,"My name is Edith Burns. Do you believe in Easter?"  Beverly said, "Why yes I do."  Edith said, "Well, what do you ...

wash feet, sharing hope

John 13:4-5,14 NLT  So he got up from the table, took off his robe, wrapped a towel around his waist, 5 and poured water into a basin. Then he began to wash the disciples’ feet, drying them with the towel he had around him… 14 And since I, your Lord and Teacher, have washed your feet, you ought to wash each other’s feet. Jesus set the example we follow.  He served.  He valued and gave value to others.  That is why we choose to serve. For 18 years our church has shared an outreach called back2school, and for 16 of those years we have chosen to give students brand new shoes and socks as well as washing their feet.  It is one of the most important parts of this event. Washing feet is a humbling experience where both the give and the receiver learn how to share some moments that might change their lives.  Jesus said we should do this.  See the verse above.  Follow His example, do what He did, and give far more than you will ever know....
