feed the hungry!

Today’s post is written by Adrienne Hubbard who helps lead our student ministry at The Community Fellowship.  She and her husband have been married for 6 years and have 2 awesome boys.  Adrienne and Sean have been part of The Community since the church began.  Enjoy what she has written and place help our students as you are led!!!

John 15:12
“This is my commandment, that you love one another as I have loved you...”

There are many times in my devotions that I have had that verse and thought, I do that, I love others. But too many times I let an opportunity of actually showing love go by.  Whether it is because of fear, distrust or how much of a financial burden it would cost, I have let moments of showing God’s love go wasted.

At the beginning of 2015 my husband and I decided to make a family goal of truly loving one another, and I am not talking about just more love for each other.  I am talking about loving strangers whose stories we don’t know. Part of truly loving one another is giving, giving money, giving time, giving affection and giving prayer. The first is always the hardest, because we have been taught to not give money because you never know what it will be used for.

Luke chapter 3 verses 10-11 says; and the crowds asked him “What shall we do?” and he answered them, “Whoever has two tunics is to share with him who has none, and whoever has food is to do likewise.”  Jesus asked the crowd to give blindly to those who needed it.  They didn’t have to ask them what they needed it for or what they would use it for, but he asked them to give.  Have you given as blindly as Jesus has asked us to do? I know I haven’t.

Luke 12:34
For where you treasure is, there will your heart be also.”

Where is your treasure?  Is it in your bank account going untouched?  Or is it in people saving lives?  I challenge you to give blindly; I challenge you to make your treasure save lives.  I challenge you step out on your faith and truly love others.

On April 10 The Community Fellowship Youth begin the 30 hour famine, in which they will fast for 30 hours while raising funds to feed children, whom they have never met, to help them eat another day, so they may live another day.  Our goal is small $735.00, enough to feed 21 children for one month, which end up being $35.00 a child.

Will you “MAKE THIS FIGHT YOURS?”  You can give any amount.  No amount is too small to end the fight for hunger. Below you will find a link to our Community Fellowship 30 HOUR FAMINE Online Giving site. If you want to give more than just financial or you are truly unable to financially give, we ask that you consider becoming a fasting partner, who will choose to fast the 30 hours along one of the Youth.  They also need prayer as this is a time of stepping out in faith.  If you would like to be a fasting partner, please let me or Jennifer Terry know or send Pastor Michael an email at mharrison@thecommunityfellowship.org.

Are you ready to step out in faith and blindly give so that you may love one another?  Matthew 25:35 says “For I was hungry and you gave me food, I was thirty and you gave me something to drink...” Don’t let another opportunity go by wasted!

Have you heard of EDITH BURNS?

Edith Burns was a wonderful Christian who lived in San Antonio, Texas . She was the patient of a doctor by the name of Will Phillips. Dr. Phillips was a gentle doctor who saw patients as people. His favorite patient was Edith Burns.  One morning he went to his office with a heavy heart and it was because of Edith Burns.  When he walked into that waiting room, there sat Edith with her big black Bible in her lap earnestly talking to a young mother sitting beside her.  Edith Burns had a habit of introducing herself in this way: "Hello, my name is Edith Burns.  Do you believe in Easter?" Then she would explain the meaning of Easter, and many times people would be saved.  Dr. Phillips walked into that office and there he saw the head nurse, Beverly. Beverly had first met Edith when she was taking her blood pressure. Edith began by saying,"My name is Edith Burns. Do you believe in Easter?"  Beverly said, "Why yes I do."  Edith said, "Well, what do you

why is it Good Friday?

Holy Week is the time we focus on God and His gift of salvation.  We come to Friday.  The day we remember the cross, Jesus’ death and all God has done for you and me   Why do they call this day “Good Friday” because it doesn’t seems good?   Jesus was treated as a criminal.  He was beaten so much that He could not recognize Him.  His pain would have been too much for you or me to endure.  That is especially from Scripture I’ve read or as in the movie the  Passion of the Christ .   Yet it is a good day.  It is Good Friday because God had our good in His heart.  What Jesus did that day changed our forever direction. Here are some thoughts that come to me:   He is Redemption and Redeemer   He too our Pain and Punishment   He is our Righteousness and Reality   He is the Savior and Life   All of those happened from the cross.  It was meant for the worst lawbreakers.  It was not meant for a Savior who never broke a law.  It was lifted high so that onlookers could see the price Jesus.   Look

Day 8 in Cuba

We have just come off and incredible weekend, and it is day 8 of the mission trip in Cuba.  Thank you to all who have been praying for this trip, the mission team and the impact it will have on those we serve.   Please don’t stop praying. Last week Alex and I served with a mission team in the mountains of southern Cuba.  There were several challenges, but God gave us safety, provision and opportunity to serve some of the sweetest people I have ever met.  No running water… sporadic electricity generated by a small, logo dammed up river, no transportation other than animals, limited food sources and more.  These people love the Lord and sharing their faith with others. Over the weekend we made our way back to Havana.  On Friday our vehicle broke down leaving us on the side of the road for several hours.  We then boarded a bus and rode 14 hours.  We arrived safely and even got some rest. Sunday was so, so good.  We visited two partner churches.  In the morning we were with one church that
