fix my eyes

Look straight ahead, and fix your eyes on what lies before you.

One of my favorite songs as of late is Fix My Eyes by the group For King and Country, and it talks about a man’s commitment to choosing what He focuses on and how he lives his life.  It is evident that God got hold of his mind and heart.

We must do the same so that we can seize the purpose that God created us for.  It is a tragedy to miss the best things God has for His kids.  We were created to win (as I shared with our church Sunday).  We were created to be in relationship with God.  We were created to make a difference in the world we live.  We were created to prepare for heaven with God.

To fix our eyes on Jesus is one of the best choices we will make, and it is a daily choice, sometimes a minute-by-minute choice.  Spend a little time reading through the lyrics of this song or even go listen to it for yourself.

FIX MY EYES by For King and Country

Hit rewind, click delete
Stand face to face with the younger me
All of the mistakes
All of the heartbreak
Here's what I'd do differently, I'd

Love like I'm not scared
Give when it's not fair
Live life for another
Take time for a brother
Fight for the weak ones
Speak out for freedom
Find faith in the battle
Stand tall but above it all
Fix my eyes on You
On You

I learned the lines and talked the talk
(Everybody knows it, everybody knows it)
But the road less traveled is hard to walk
(Everybody knows it, everybody knows)
It takes a soldier
Who knows his orders
To walk the walk I'm supposed to walk, and

The things of earth are dimming
In the light of Your glory and grace
I'll set my sights upon Heaven
I'm fixing my eyes on You, on You
I'm fixing my eyes on You, on You
I'm fixing my eyes

One of my favorite verses forever has been this one:

Set your mind on the things above, not on the things that are on earth.

That truth makes all the difference in the world.  Our relationship with God and being in right relationship with Jesus makes things happen in our lives and in the lives of people around us.

May God help you and me to fix our eyes on Jesus each and every day!

Hebrews 12:2  NASB
fixing our eyes on Jesus, the author and perfecter of faith, who for the joy set before Him endured the cross, despising the shame, and has sat down at the right hand of the throne of God.

Have you heard of EDITH BURNS?

Edith Burns was a wonderful Christian who lived in San Antonio, Texas . She was the patient of a doctor by the name of Will Phillips. Dr. Phillips was a gentle doctor who saw patients as people. His favorite patient was Edith Burns.  One morning he went to his office with a heavy heart and it was because of Edith Burns.  When he walked into that waiting room, there sat Edith with her big black Bible in her lap earnestly talking to a young mother sitting beside her.  Edith Burns had a habit of introducing herself in this way: "Hello, my name is Edith Burns.  Do you believe in Easter?" Then she would explain the meaning of Easter, and many times people would be saved.  Dr. Phillips walked into that office and there he saw the head nurse, Beverly. Beverly had first met Edith when she was taking her blood pressure. Edith began by saying,"My name is Edith Burns. Do you believe in Easter?"  Beverly said, "Why yes I do."  Edith said, "Well, what do you ...

wash feet, sharing hope

John 13:4-5,14 NLT  So he got up from the table, took off his robe, wrapped a towel around his waist, 5 and poured water into a basin. Then he began to wash the disciples’ feet, drying them with the towel he had around him… 14 And since I, your Lord and Teacher, have washed your feet, you ought to wash each other’s feet. Jesus set the example we follow.  He served.  He valued and gave value to others.  That is why we choose to serve. For 18 years our church has shared an outreach called back2school, and for 16 of those years we have chosen to give students brand new shoes and socks as well as washing their feet.  It is one of the most important parts of this event. Washing feet is a humbling experience where both the give and the receiver learn how to share some moments that might change their lives.  Jesus said we should do this.  See the verse above.  Follow His example, do what He did, and give far more than you will ever know....
