volunteers of the week REACH MINISTRY PARTNERS

This week’s volunteer of the week at The Community Fellowship is actually several groups of people who have partnered with us feed the hungry in our community!!!

A few times each month The Community Fellowship recognizes individuals that stand out in their, often quiet, efforts to bless others.  This week we want to express our overwhelming gratitude to the many churches, organizations, groups and individuals that generously help us to be the hands and feet of Jesus in REACH Ministry.

The ladies at First Baptist Bassett get together to make beautiful knit hats, footies, blankets and gloves and then donate them to us to give to our friends Uptown during regular feedings.  Each time we present these gifts they become cherished and much needed items to those receiving them.  Many times we’ve seen people come to the feedings without proper covering from the cold, and it is an honor to be able to bless them with these necessary and much needed items.

In past months Starling Avenue Baptist Church donated hygiene bags that were put together by several participating churches within the Henry County Baptist Association through “operation in as much”.  These bags contained shampoo, deodorant, mouthwash, razors, toothbrushes, toothpaste and so much more!  There were also many blankets given to us along with the hygiene products that have been given to those that need them and truly appreciates them.

The Lord has broadened the territory of Victory Baptist Church as they very generously donate items to REACH Ministry for us to share with anyone in need.

A ladies group at Rich Acres Christian Church meets regularly to assemble hygiene bags to then distribute to people that may otherwise not have the very basic items that they need.  These items are then put into new backpacks with the acronym B.A.S.I.C. that stands for Basic Acts Serving In Christ.  We often see our friends walking or biking wearing these backpacks, and we are reminded of the time, effort and the love of Christ that is shared with those that receive these bags.  We are indeed grateful that our friends at RACC often donate these backpacks to our ministry for us to share with those that need them.

The REACH Ministry serves a meal each Saturday evening at 5pm at the Martinsville Hotel.  This meal feeds any where from 30 to 80 people.  Recently we REACH began serving a meal on the 3rd Sunday of the month too.  Many from The Community Fellowship and a few other churches assist with this incredible outreach to those who are hungry in Martinsville and Henry County.

These are but a few of the many people that have joined together with us to bless others that are in need of a meal, a hug, blankets, hygiene items and friends that care.  We are honored to partner with others in showing the love of God to our community!  That is why we take this opportunity to celebrate these groups of our VOLUNEERS OF THE WEEK.  Thank you!

Have you heard of EDITH BURNS?

Edith Burns was a wonderful Christian who lived in San Antonio, Texas . She was the patient of a doctor by the name of Will Phillips. Dr. Phillips was a gentle doctor who saw patients as people. His favorite patient was Edith Burns.  One morning he went to his office with a heavy heart and it was because of Edith Burns.  When he walked into that waiting room, there sat Edith with her big black Bible in her lap earnestly talking to a young mother sitting beside her.  Edith Burns had a habit of introducing herself in this way: "Hello, my name is Edith Burns.  Do you believe in Easter?" Then she would explain the meaning of Easter, and many times people would be saved.  Dr. Phillips walked into that office and there he saw the head nurse, Beverly. Beverly had first met Edith when she was taking her blood pressure. Edith began by saying,"My name is Edith Burns. Do you believe in Easter?"  Beverly said, "Why yes I do."  Edith said, "Well, what do you ...

wash feet, sharing hope

John 13:4-5,14 NLT  So he got up from the table, took off his robe, wrapped a towel around his waist, 5 and poured water into a basin. Then he began to wash the disciples’ feet, drying them with the towel he had around him… 14 And since I, your Lord and Teacher, have washed your feet, you ought to wash each other’s feet. Jesus set the example we follow.  He served.  He valued and gave value to others.  That is why we choose to serve. For 18 years our church has shared an outreach called back2school, and for 16 of those years we have chosen to give students brand new shoes and socks as well as washing their feet.  It is one of the most important parts of this event. Washing feet is a humbling experience where both the give and the receiver learn how to share some moments that might change their lives.  Jesus said we should do this.  See the verse above.  Follow His example, do what He did, and give far more than you will ever know....
