we need God's wisdom

If you need wisdom, ask our generous God, and he will give it to you. He will not rebuke you for asking.

Ask God for some insight and know what you will get? An answer and help. Not only is our God real, but He is really active in the lives of His kids. Why is it that we miss Him at times or fail to hear His voice? It could be because we are not looking for an answer or for help after we ask.

12 years ago I began a search that led me to study in depth Proverbs and Ecclesiastes. What an eye opening experience those months where! Come to find out, some of the same notes I made then have become of huge value to my work and my life now. God is always working, and He gives us His best. All we need is to be listening and looking.

One of the ways this is true is in a small book I bought during that time I of study. Yes, I read some of it, and then placed the book on the shelf. Last year I began reading another book, and come to find out, it is by the same author. After comparing my notes from the two books, both written by Peter Kreeft, I saw some huge truths God was putting in my life.

Kreeft wrote some things that blew me away, many things that made me think and a lot of things that God used to give me insight into the heart of God. Here is one short passage from How to Win the Culture War (page 118-):

"Because truth is stronger than falsehood, light is stronger than darkness. Whenever the light shines into the darkness, the darkness cannot comprehend it: it cannot understand it, cannot surround it and cannot put it out...The blood that saved the world two thousand years ago still flows and still accomplishes the same work. Insofar as we let ourselves be Christ's blood bank, we will save our society and our world."

Hear my heart: the world needs Jesus, and we need God's wisdom to give Jesus to the world. It is that simple.

Are we willing to set aside our own agenda and our own desires so that people will go to heaven? No, it is not easy, but it is our purpose to be part of God's plan. In today's reading from Proverbs I found some more wood for the fire, ammunition for the gun, thought for our minds and more push to place us in the presence of God. Read on (and get God's wisdom):

Tune your ears to wisdom, and concentrate on understanding. Cry out for insight, and ask for understanding. Search for them as you would for silver; seek them like hidden treasures. Then you will understand what it means to fear the Lord, and you will gain knowledge of God. For the Lord grants wisdom! From his mouth come knowledge and understanding. He grants a treasure of common sense to the honest. He is a shield to those who walk with integrity. He guards the paths of the just and protects those who are faithful to him.

Have you heard of EDITH BURNS?

Edith Burns was a wonderful Christian who lived in San Antonio, Texas . She was the patient of a doctor by the name of Will Phillips. Dr. Phillips was a gentle doctor who saw patients as people. His favorite patient was Edith Burns.  One morning he went to his office with a heavy heart and it was because of Edith Burns.  When he walked into that waiting room, there sat Edith with her big black Bible in her lap earnestly talking to a young mother sitting beside her.  Edith Burns had a habit of introducing herself in this way: "Hello, my name is Edith Burns.  Do you believe in Easter?" Then she would explain the meaning of Easter, and many times people would be saved.  Dr. Phillips walked into that office and there he saw the head nurse, Beverly. Beverly had first met Edith when she was taking her blood pressure. Edith began by saying,"My name is Edith Burns. Do you believe in Easter?"  Beverly said, "Why yes I do."  Edith said, "Well, what do you ...

wash feet, sharing hope

John 13:4-5,14 NLT  So he got up from the table, took off his robe, wrapped a towel around his waist, 5 and poured water into a basin. Then he began to wash the disciples’ feet, drying them with the towel he had around him… 14 And since I, your Lord and Teacher, have washed your feet, you ought to wash each other’s feet. Jesus set the example we follow.  He served.  He valued and gave value to others.  That is why we choose to serve. For 18 years our church has shared an outreach called back2school, and for 16 of those years we have chosen to give students brand new shoes and socks as well as washing their feet.  It is one of the most important parts of this event. Washing feet is a humbling experience where both the give and the receiver learn how to share some moments that might change their lives.  Jesus said we should do this.  See the verse above.  Follow His example, do what He did, and give far more than you will ever know....
